Amidst all the ongoing preparations and elections of state/province finalists for the national pageant Miss Grand Thailand 2021, the organization of Miss Grand Thailand announced yesterday that this year’s competition was postponed indefinitely because there is a spike in COVID-19 cases in Thailand.

The daily cases of COVID-19 in Thailand have now broken a record at 15 thousand. This was done after the government previously apologized for the slowness of the Corona vaccination program in the country. Thailand is the only country in Southeast Asia that has not joined the COVAX program.

“Due to the situation of COVID-19 intense and the government cannot control,” the organization stated. One of the province pageant Miss Grand Samut Sakhon also came under the government’s radar reports of 22 people, including 13 of its candidates, being infected with COVID-19 were revealed recently.

According to reports, a complaint against the organizers was filed with local police by the Huai Kwang district office. Although the organizers secured permission from the district office to conduct the coronation, they failed to follow all the required protocols and due to these, organizers and participants are being investigated and could face criminal charges.

There are also speculations that the organization might appoint a representative for this year and conduct the national pageant later. Many await the designation of the Miss Grand Thailand 2020 finalist and first runner-up Indy Johnson, becoming the official representative of Thailand in Miss Grand International 2021.

Miss Grand Thailand 2020 and Miss Grand International 2020 Top 10 finalist Patcharaporn Chantarapadit will crown her successor for the title and to represent Thailand at the upcoming edition of Miss Grand International. Now that there is some uncertainty to the national pageant, it is possible that the Miss Grand International 2021 competition will also be postponed until 2022 or to be shifted to another venue, most probably USA.
