Miss Mauritius 2020, the 49th edition of the national pageant, held its coronation night in October 2019 last year where Angélique Sanson was crowned the new queen. The pageant was held at the Hennessy Park Hotel in Ébène. Angelique succeeded and was crowned by Miss Mauritius 2019 Urvashi Gooriah.
A resident of Curepipe, the 25-year-old Angelique is an administrative manager. She wants to devote herself to raising awareness about endometriosis, a painful disorder in which tissue similar to the tissue that normally lines the inside of your uterus, the endometrium, grows outside your uterus.4
Angelique, along with the winning crown with her stunning performance, took home the Talent Award and the Beach Beauty award. She also won the Miss Friendship award and the Best dressed award at the contest.
She also took to her social media to reveal her emotions after crowning as she said, “It is a great honor for me! And also, a nice surprise because we all worked a lot. I did not expect to have so many prizes. All the girls supported me. This allowed me to continue the adventure with a smile.”
Twelve finalists competed for the national crown where Sindy Speurt was adjudged the first runner-up and Mishma Caullychurn was adjudged the second runner-up. Along with these titles Mayuree Lobin was crowned Miss Tourism World 2019, Ava Memero was crowned Miss International Mauritius 2019 and Tania René was crowned Miss Intercontinental Mauritius 2019.
