The Miss Universe 2021 pageant will be the 70th Miss Universe competition, scheduled to be held on 12th December 2021 in Eilat, Israel, where stunning delegates from all over the world will represent their countries and compete for the coveted crown. The recently crowned, Miss Universe 2020 Andrea Meza of Mexico will crown her successor at the end of the event.

While the delegates are in the last leg of their preparations and have started to depart for the host country, Miss Nicaragua 2021 Allison Wassmer has revealed her national costume for the preliminary competition at the 70th Miss Universe pageant. Allison’s costume is a tribute to Gregorio Bracamonte.

Carlos’s design is a homage to the creator of ceramics Gregorio Bracamonte, originally from San Juan de Oriente who dedicated his life to the rescue of pre-Columbian designs carved in clay. Reflecting the work that Nicaraguans do with their hands, forming part of our cultural heritage.

Gregorio is known as the master of San Juan's pottery tradition.  He learned his art from his parents and was also a student in the first class of the pottery school in 1978.  While other artists were producing traditional utilitarian ware and vases, Gregorio began to look at this as a form of art.

He also was one of the first to introduce pre-Columbian designs back into the modern pottery making tradition. His works are known for his attention to the finest details.  As a result, the National Museum of Culture and History regularly loans him authentic pottery pieces for him to study and replicate.

Representing Nicaraguan art is 26 years-old Allison Wassmer, who started working at the young age of 16, owns a business and has a degree in graphic design from the Universidad Centroamericana, Managua. She is an expert in Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop. In 2015, she joined Joyas Esther in Managua as a community manager.

Allison will represent Nicaragua at Miss Universe 2021 and if she wins, she will be the international beauty pageant’s first titleholder from Nicaragua, as the country is yet to pioneer its win at Miss Universe.
