Being brought up in Canada by parents who were immigrants, was challenging at times for Jean. 8-13 is an age where you become more aware of life. Her family didn’t have things most people had or did the same things they did. She was fortunate that she had many cousins and family members around to provide the feeling of security. She was also bullied at school for being overweight and the way she looked.

Being bullied, she learned that respect is very important, whether someone respects you or not. You should never let other people’s behaviour deplete your manners because you represent yourself not others.

Her most memorable moment is singing on stage for the first time. She was about 5 years old and it was at her little sister's baptism reception. She remembers being very nervous but once on stage, she had a feeling of euphoria. Thinking about it still makes her remember that feeling. Even though she was so young she remembers how amazing it was to connect with others on another level, different from just conversing.

She wants to be Miss Philippines Earth 2018 because she says, “We only have one Earth and we aren’t doing a good job of preserving it.” She wants to have the platform to make a difference. “If we do not change our ways soon it will be too late to reverse the effects of climate change and conservation of our natural resources,” she adds.

Her environmental advocacy is to bring awareness regarding recycling and reducing waste. She wants to bring international standards to the Philippines when it comes to reprocessing recycled materials. She chose this because she has been living in the Philippines for four months now and she noticed plastic bottles being thrown in the garbage, no recycling bins or depots. It is seldom that she sees proper waste disposal here and she wants to help take part in making new processes here in the Philippines.

Do you think Jean will be the next Earth Queen in the Philippines?
