Essi Unkuri crowned Miss Universe Finland 2021

Miss Suomi 2021, the 90th edition of Miss Suomi, was held on 18th September 2021 at the AlfaTV, Kerava, Uusimaa where Essi Unkuri was crowned Miss Universe Finland 2021 and became the official representative of Finland at Miss Universe 2021. She succeeds Miss Suomi/Miss Universe Finland 2020 Viivi Altonen.

Essi Unkuri is a Finnish entrepreneur, actor and a television presenter who bested nine other contestants to win the national crown. Unkuri hails from Vaasa, Finland and has completed her studies from Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences. She is an experienced content designer and is skilled in MailChimp, Twitter, Microsoft Word, Advertising and Instagram Marketing.



Miss Suomi 2021 was not her first national rodeo as she competed at Miss Suomi 2017 as a finalist but did not make it to the Top 3. Okpala starred in the Finnish film ‘MC-Helper 3’ which released in Finland in 2018. She also played Naisopiskelija in the Rantabaari episode ‘Mustasukkaisuutta’ which aired in 2019. She also stars in the Finnish film ‘The Creeps’ which will be released in Finland in December 2021, just when she will represent Finland at Miss Universe 2021.

Also at the finale, Emilia Lepomäki was crowned Miss World Finland 2021 as she became the official representative of Finland at Miss World 2021. She succeeds Miss World Finland 2019 Dana Mononen. Emmi Suuronen and Sonja Länsivuori were adjudged first and second runners-up respectively. Eveliina Tikka won the People’s Choice Award at the finale.



The panel of jury included Sointu Borg, a Finnish entrepreneur who became famous after winning the reality TV program Diil in the 2021; Heidi Sohlberg Miss Suomi 2001, Anne Kukkohovi, a retired Finnish model who has worked both in and outside Finland from 1990 to 1998; and Jaana Villanen, speaker, host and educator.

The eight finalists who competed for Miss Suomi 2021 were Sonja Länsivuori, Riikka Uusitalo, Emilia Lepomäki, Essi Unkuri, Eveliina Tikka, Hanna Ojaniemi, Emmi Suuronen and Jasmine Järvinen.
