After winning accolades for her strong and powerful performance in her digital debut ‘Aarya’, Miss Universe 1994 Sushmita Sen has announced that she will be reprising her role of Aarya Sareen in the season 2 of the crime drama web series on Disney+ Hotstar, co-created by Ram Madhvani and Sandeep Modi.
The diva posted a picture on her social media on Thursday i.e., 25th February 2021 with a caption, “She sees a storm coming...in the mirror!!! #Aarya #season2 “your wish is our command” I love you guys!!! Let’s do this Ram Madhvani.” The web series is an official adaptation of the popular Dutch crime-drama, ‘Penoza’ received both critical and commercial acclaim after it was released in June 2020 on OTT platform Disney+ Hotstar.
‘Aarya’ marks the comeback of the beauty queen turned Bollywood actress Sushmita Sen after five years of her last release which was a Bengali film ‘Nirbaak’, and in Bollywood it was Anees Bazmee's multi-starrer, ‘No Problem’ in 2010. She has recently won awards for her performance in ‘Aarya’, titled ‘Best Actor in drama series’ by eminent entertainment award platforms like Flimfare, Dada Saheb Phalke, Film Critics Guild, Raj Kapoor Award. She took to her social media to share the pictures as well as thanked everyone who made it possible for her to make a comeback on-screen and make the process easy.
Talking about Aarya in an interview, Sushmita said, "Aarya is a call made after 26 years of experience of making mistakes! It’s a culmination of all that I have learned while making those mistakes. And one of the things I have realized is that you can have an author-backed role and a fantastic script and be inspired by amazing content… but if the people making it don’t match up, then ultimately, it’s a visual medium… what you see is what you get. So, the script and the fact that it was inspired by Penoza (a Dutch web series), which, if you have loved (The) Godfather… then imagine Michael Corleone as a woman."
The web-series was also released in six other languages including Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Kannada, and Malayalam. The Indian adaptation of Penoza, revolves around Aarya Sareen; a happily married woman whose world turns upside down when her husband, pharma baron Tej Sareen is shot. The story proceeds after she gets to know that Tej may have been involved in an illegal drug racket which now threatens her family. The series also features, Chandrachur Singh, Namit Das, Manish Chaudhary, Jayant Kripalani, Vikas Kumar, Sikander Kher, Maya Sarao, Sugandha Garg, and Ankur Bhatia.
