Reigning Miss Universe Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach is all praises for the first “Plus-Sized” finalist Mirella Paz, of recently culminated Miss Peru 2016 pageant, for her sheer self-confidence in competing at the pageant. The stunning Mirella Paz made it to the Top 10 Finalists list of Miss Peru 2016.
The coveted pageant of Miss Peru 2016, popular as Miss Universe Peru 2016, saw Valeria Piazza as the lucky winner of the Miss Peru 2016 title. She was crowned by the outgoing queen Laura Spoya, and reigning Miss Universe Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, at the end of the gala held on April 24’ 2016 in Peru.
Miss Peru 2016 finalist, Mirella Paz gained the limelight and admiration of not just her fellow aspirants, but also Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wutzbach’s. She was alleged to be the first “plus- sized” beauty pageant participant to have competed in the Miss Peru 2016 competition.

During the Miss Peru Universo 2016 pageant, Pia Wurtzbach was showered with many questions by the media. Sources reported that one of the questions asked was about Wurtzbach’s views on the “plus- sized” candidate. The Miss Universe said that “Paz might not possess the society’s standards on a what a beauty queen should be, but she embodies the beauty of a real woman. She said her courage makes her a commendable queen.”
Pia also added, “I think that she shows what a real woman is, who is confident in herself, who joined the pageant without hesitations. And I think that’s the symbol and a perfect example of what a beauty queen should be.”
She also cited her own experience at the Binibining Pilipinas 2015 where she had been criticized for being overweight. She used the criticism as motivation, and thus, she won the crown on her third try at the pageant.

“And I always say that I’m also a curvaceous woman. And if I was able to make it as Miss Philippines and in Miss Universe not being the skinniest – so if I can do it, so can anybody else.” she said on her experience, reported a renowned newspaper.
On her Instagram, she posted a photo of her and Paz all smiles after the pageant and she captioned it, “The inspiration! The one who made a statement! I applaud this girl for fighting for what she wants. That’s what it’s all about. Happy to know that we’ll be seeing Mirella again at the next Miss Peru pageant! Felicedades! Your presence alone on that stage made a huge statement globally. Congratulations.”
Mirella Paz, however, would be participating once again in the pageant to ultimately win the crown.
