“As head of the ancillary events of the DOT for Miss Universe, I have decided to cancel the fashion show in Davao City. This is to prevent controversies that may arise from the statement made by the local designers of Davao City. Thank you very much.”
The decision was taken after the Davao Fashion and Design Council (DFDC) criticized the decision of the Miss Universe hosting committee to have industry veteran Renee Salud create the outfits of the candidates for the fashion show.
De Castro also said that critics should understand that the local fabrics of Mindanao will be the focus of the show, and not individual designers. "It was Rene Salud who presented to us his concept of having the Mindanao weaves presented in a fashion show. The focus of the show will be the Mindanao fabric, not the designer," De Castro said.
Chances of the show still taking place will occur if all the parties involved in the city will be open to talk to each other and reach a compromise. Let’s see how that goes.
