Miss Universe 2017 Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters, the beauty queen who has won millions of hearts turned 23 today. The past year has been very eventful and productive for her as she graduated, won Miss South Africa 2017 and took over the title of Miss Universe 2017.

After being crowned as the Miss Universe 2017, the 23-year-old has not looked back and there’s no stopping her. Having faced a particular bump in the road, the stellar lady came back even fiercer.  “Last year in June I was hijacked and held at gunpoint”, she mentioned in one of her posts. She also talked about her experience at Megyn Kelly Today in a recent interview with none other than Megyn herself.

It is this experience that inspired her to start the unbreakable campaign which aims at educating, uplifting and empowering women worldwide on how to tackle life threatening situations.”The start is with you, by understanding how to react, defend, and protect yourself”, says the official unbreakable handle on Instagram. “There’s something so magical and empowering about woman taking hands and being willing to learn from each other”, says Demi.

Apart from starting the campaign, the African beauty queen has been out doing a lot of generous gestures and charity work. She helped to pack 2657 nutritious meals which were delivered to those too ill to purchase or cook for them at God’s love We Deliver organization. On her visit to Ecuador to fulfill her part of the duties as Miss Universe, Demi thanked Tsáchilas community for having her and teaching her their ways and everyone who attended the Santo Domingo Rotary Club dinner that helped raising funds for the rebuilding of 30 homes.

On one of her official visits to Mexico, Miss Universe expressed her gratitude by saying, “I’m so grateful to be able to experience places, learn from people and embrace cultures.”

She has also visited Mexico, Philippines, France and Ecuador so far as part of her journey. Her dream and passion is to empower as many women possible with the same skills and knowledge that she was fortunate enough to receive. We wish the queen a very happy birthday and nothing but the best for the coming year.
