Miss Universe 2017 Demi-Leigh Tebow celebrated her 26th birthday on 28th June 2021 and used her birthday as a medium to help raise awareness about human trafficking. The former queen launched a campaign last week where she asked people to donate to the cause and has managed to raise over $100,891 (R1.44m).

Demi took to her social media account to share, "I’m so thankful that God has blessed me with another year. Even more, I’m so grateful that so many of you guys have helped to affect the precious lives of survivors of human trafficking by contributing to my birthday fundraiser. I’m completely blown away by everyone’s generosity that is benefiting ‘Her Song’, one of the anti-human trafficking ministries of the Tim Tebow Foundation, based in the USA. It means the world to me, but even more so, it is the world to these brave and courageous survivors. "

With a mission of ending human trafficking one life at a time, Her Song by Tim Tebow Foundation deploys a holistic approach to survivor care, providing every woman who walks through the doors of their safe homes with not only a safe place to shelter and other physical necessities but also with the counselling and spiritual care that is so critical to full restoration.

"The severe lack of safe space for those who need it most is incomprehensible. It’s something that so many of us take for granted every single day, but, for so many others, it’s a sobering reality with few solutions. I truly believe we can all help turn the statistics around - one life at a time," added the queen. Demi also shared her experience of being nearly kidnapped during a hijacking and called it one of the most horrifying moments of her life.

After her rescue, Demi started working to help women who had been survivors like her and used her platform to advocate for women's safety. She is passionate about a program she helped develop to train women in self-defence in various situations called the ‘Unbreakable’ campaign which was inspired by her attempted hijacking experience. Demi shares that one of the reasons she is so passionate about giving women a voice in this world is because she has lived with that fear and doesn’t want anyone to live with it anymore.

Demi’s husband, Tim Tebow founded the Tim Tebow Foundation to help people with special needs by crowning prom kings and queens or by demonstrating God's love through their four other outreaches. The goal of the foundation is to let people know that God loves them and that they are worthy. With his foundation, Demi and Tim reaches out to people who need help and makes them realize that they are worthy and loved.
