27 Sep 2018 | Irina Silva

In New York, the Nelson Mandela Peace Summit saw the grand unveiling of the statue of Nelson Mandela at the United Nations General Assembly. Amongst others, attending the event was our very own Miss Universe 2017 Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters who was celebrating her national holiday.

Demi-Leigh graced the event with her beautiful presence as a part of her duty as a representative of South Africa and as an international queen. The former Miss South Africa 2017 was accompanied by the current Miss South Africa 2018 Tamaryn Green and television personality Gerry Eldson. On 24th September every year, South Africa celebrates National Heritage Day. Originally it was known as Shaka Day to honour King Shaka Zulu. The name was then changed to Heritage Day, Braai Day and then Braai4Heritage Day. After a lot of changes and protest the name was finally decided as National Heritage Day and was marked as a gazette holiday.
