You might remember the famous Steve Harvey from the Miss Universe 2015 controversy or goof-up if you want to call it that! Well he’s coming back this year again to host the 66th edition of Miss Universe pageant.
This Family Feud’s talk show host is also an American comedian, television host of other shows, producer, radio personality, actor and author. Along with this, his other achievements also include five-time Daytime Emmy Award winner and a 14-time NAACP Image Award winner in various categories.
He is popular for his for a mistake he made in Miss Universe 2015, when upon announcing the final results; he mistakenly named the first runner-up, Miss Colombia, Ariadna Gutiérrez, as the winner. A few minutes after she was crowned, Harvey announced that he had read the results incorrectly and that Miss Philippines, Pia Wurtzbach, was the new Miss Universe. He apologized to Wurtzbach outside the venue and later tweeted an apology to both the contestants, mistakenly misspelling the country names.
What’s interesting is last year also while hosting the Miss Universe 2016 pageant, he took every opportunity to poke fun at himself and his extremely embarrassing gaffe. As soon as he arrived on stage, he addressed the audience about the matter. “All right, let’s get it out of the way. I know what you’re thinking: ‘Is that the guy from last year? Did they bring back that guy from last year?’ Well, they did. It’s me. I’m back,” Harvey deadpanned. “Been a long year getting here too, cause boy, I paid the price for last year.”
Harvey brought it up repeatedly, joking that he got eye surgery so he would be able to read the winner card correctly. He also asked the reigning Miss Colombia Andrea Tovar, a top 13 finalist, how the people of Colombia feel about him. “A lot of people hate you,” she said bluntly, before graciously adding, “But you know I love you.”
We will also have the lovely Ashley Graham as the host along with Steve. Now we just have to wait and see how they plan to entertain us this year at the Miss Universe 2017 finale night on 26th November.
