The coveted Miss Universe pageant has been held in various countries all over the world. Not only does the famous pageant bring a boost to the economy but it also increases tourism as well. The USA has hosted Miss Universe the maximum number of times (35).
As the speculations go, The Philippines wants to host the international competition again after a successful stint in 2016 where Iris Mattinieare of France was crowned Miss Universe 2018 by the outgoing Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbaach of Philippines.
The President of Philippines has announced that he wants to increase tourism in his country and thus would like to host the upcoming pageant.
During a Cabinet meeting on 4th April 2018, President Rodrigo Duerte and his officials decided to temporarily shutdown Boracay. Boracay is a main tourist attraction, and he feels hosting at least one Miss Universe activity on the island will easily bring a large number of tourists.
