Miss Universe organization, on their official Youtube channel, posted the ‘Up close and Personal’ series of the 2020 batch of delegates where the divas got a chance to introduce themselves as they prepare for their stint at the 69th edition of Miss Universe which will begin in May 2021.

While all the delegates impressed in their interviews with their portrayal of brave emotions and speaking the truth with sincerity and confidence, there were five beauties who stunned the audience as they openly and courageously spoke about the abuse they faced in their lives. Lets take a look here –

Miss Universe Vietnam 2020 Nguyen Tran Khanh Van spoke, “I was a victim of sexual harassment and I understand these problems lead to phobias, fears and lack of confidence in real life. I never told my story to anyone and I hid it in my soul so there was no way I could get through it.”

One day, the Vietnamese beauty decided to share it with her family and with their support she became stronger. She thinks she bounced back stronger from her past and that shows in her body language today as she talks about it bravely and with so much confidence.

Miss Universe Belize 2020 Iris Salguero surprised everyone the most with her confidence and clarity of thoughts in the interview. She is a survivor of an abusive relationship and believes that she needs to break the stigma around the word ‘victim’. She was seventeen and a half years of age when the unfortunate incident happened as she struggled in her relationship but kept quiet. She woke up one night to her abuser breaking into her home to attack her and that was it for her. She found strength in telling her story because she finds herself lucky to walk out that situation unscathed.

Miss Universe Malta 2020 Anthea Zammit talked about a charity which she works with ‘Freedom Charity organization’. The foundation is close to her heart because it works towards supporting people who suffer from abuse. The cause hits home because Anthea was a victim of physical abuse. She was admitted to the country’s national hospital for two weeks and that’s when she decided it was enough as she started working towards becoming the person she is today.

Miss Universe Barbados 2020 Hillary Ann Williams is a proud survivor of gender based violence which could happen to anybody. Thus, she chose to use her voice and platform as often and as passionately as she can. She says, “Safety is an absolute right, it is not an option and every woman needs to know that she’s not alone going through this process and that there are outlets for her to seek safety.”

Miss Universe Haiti 2020 Eden Berandoive talked about the abuse she suffered when she was just 15 years of age and was attacked by her Spanish teacher. Being admitted to a hospital for two months, the chances of her survival were bleak but Eden fought through and emerged even stronger. When her parents asked her to stop going to the school, Eden made them understand that it was her goal to inspire others through her story and promote education which is the most powerful weapon to change the world.
