Puteri Indonesia organization held the seeing off press conference for Rr. Ayu Maulida Putri, before she flies off to the 69th Miss Universe yesterday which streamed live on the official Youtube channel of Puteri Indonesia. During the conference, Ayu Maulida showcased three exquisite gowns as she paraded the stage exhibiting her preparations to represent Indonesia at the international platform.

Ayu’s most stunning appearance was, ‘IJEN: Blazing Bright Blue’, an evening gown inspired by the blue flames of the Ijen Crater which Indonesia is the one and only countries to experience this natural phenomena, Indonesia has been blessed with ‘Kawah Ijen’ or the Ijen Crater. Before dawn, on a clear day, travellers from all over the world come and gather to witness the “blue flames” of the Ijen Crater.

According to National Geographic, although the blue flames aren’t actually blue lava, yet the light from the combustion of sulphuric gases, this phenomenon has been one of the rarest occurrences in the world. Inspired by this recherché sight, designer Diana Putri, chose a sheer nude base adorned with glimmering Swarovski crystals in royal blue and Midas gold.

The gown structurally creates a form inspired by the scorching flames, forming a body fitted curve telling a story about the flames shining through Ayu’s beautiful aura. While the colours are inspired by the flames, they can also represent the regal touch behind the gown. Diana chose a classic old Hollywood inspired silhouette to package the gown in an international light with rich natural and traditional inspiration.

Apart from this sensation gown, she also presented a cocktail dress, ‘Black Orchid Flower’, designed by Sebastian Gunawan and was inspired by the tropical island Black Orchid flower which symbolizes femininity. For another look she donned a traditional outfit, ‘Kebaya Merah Nareswari’, designed by Anne Avantie Heart. The red Kebaya in the outfit symbolized the spirit of Indonesian women and was also a symbol of courage, strength, and not easily giving up.

The highlight of the press conference was the national costume reveal, ‘Komodo dragons’, designed by Diana M Putri and Silvy Prajogo which is inspired by the native lizards of Indonesia. She will carry the costume to represent Indonesia in the National Costume competition on 13th May 2021 at Miss Universe 2020.
