Just as the delegates are preparing to represent their respective countries at Miss Universe 2022 in almost two weeks, there are a few delegates who have shown immense potential even if they have not made it the seasoned hot picks lists for the crown. While not so ‘popular’, these delegates have an immense amount of confidence, perseverance, and dedication to perform well on the finale night and win placements at Miss Universe 2022.

Dark Horse candidates are those candidates about whom little is known but who unexpectedly wins or succeeds. In a series of features, lets know more about the Top 10 ‘Dark horse’ delegates of Miss Universe 2022.



Kiara Arends is all set to represent Aruba at Miss Universe and has emerged as one of the dark horse beauties for the crown. She hails from Oranjestad, Aruba and speaks Papiamento, English, Spanish and French. she attended the University of Aruba in Oranjestad where she received her propedeuse degree. She went on to get her law degree from University of Aruba and also earned master’s degree in International business, trade and tax law.

Not new to the pageantry, Kiara holds the title of Miss Teen Aruba International 2017. Also, as Miss Teen Americas Aruba 2018, she represented Aruba at Miss Teen Americas 2018 in El Salvador and became runner-up to Michelle Colon of Puerto Rico.



Amidst the new coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, she also founded a charity organization called Benefitting Upcoming Mommies during the Pandemic (BUMP) Aruba. With her charity work, her pageant experience, her stunning beauty and the drive to do better for the society, Kiara will surely be a strong contender for the international crown. Aruba is yet to win its first Miss Universe crown.

Miss Universe 2022, the 71st Miss Universe pageant, is all set to be held at the New Orleans Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, Louisiana, United States on 14th January 2023. Miss Universe 2021 Harnaaz Sandhu of India will crown her successor at the end of the event.
