Miss Universe Canada 2020 is all set to host the coronation event on 24th October 2020 where stunning beauties from all over the country will compete for the national crown and an opportunity to represent Canada in Miss Universe 2020. Miss Universe Canada 2019 Alyssa Boston will crown her successor at the end of the event finale.
We’ve selected the Top 10 delegates who we think have the potential to win the title and represent Canada at Miss Universe 2020 stage –
Alice Bowyer
Hailing from Calgary, Alice Bowyer stands 167 cm tall and has recently graduated from the faculty of Environmental Science from the University of Calgary. She describes herself as adventurous, passionate, and ambitious individual who endeavors to live a life where she can give back to the others. Alice enjoys the fieldwork that comes with the Environmental Science profession. She loved conducting field experiments throughout her degree where she was able to work in waders in the water or use tree cores to study Alberta’s forests. Currently, she is studying for her Law School Admissions Test (LSAT) and volunteering for different charitable organizations. She wants to use her skills to make a positive impact on the world no matter what the job title is. She explains, “I want to be the voice for those who cannot stand up for themselves. My ideal goal is to become a lawyer in the Environmental field where I can be that voice and legal advocate for the protection of the environment and natural resources.”
Christina Harb
Hailing from Montreal, Christina Harb stands 165 cm tall and works as a Kinesiologist and Physical and Health Educator. She is currently learning the American Sign Language as she believes that there is no Canadian community without the Deaf Community. The diva had survived the Lebanon war in 2006 and later travelled to Canada and settled down in Montreal. Christina understood the importance of education for women to be independent, have a strong voice, reach full equality under all laws, access positions of power and end all policies that disadvantage women. In 2017-2018 school years, she received four awards/Bursaries for her academic proficiency. As a teacher, the diva makes sure that she applies strict anti-bullying measures and is greatly involved in her community and is now volunteering for Sun Youth, MEMO-Qc. She is also completing the training to become a crisis responder for Crisis text line. She strongly believes that beauty pageants offer women a voice and helps in reducing the gaps of gender inequality and she would use the opportunity to talk about important social issues and to advocate for gender equality in Canada and throughout the world.
Emily Lau
Hailing from Toronto, Emily Lau stands 172 cm tall and has graduated from Ryerson University with a Bachelor of Commerce degree, majoring in Economics & Management Science, and minoring in Finance. She currently works in the marketing industry with a full-time job at an agency with developing some of her business which includes marketing consulting where she helps individuals and small businesses, and a luxury resale (consignment) business. The diva is also a photographer and has shot weddings, engagements, models, concerts, products, and food. Her proudest moment in her career was shooting a wedding at the Vatican. Emily’s dreams include becoming an entertainment lawyer to work alongside some of her favorite talents, including musicians and athletes, and to be able to devote more time to volunteering abroad where individuals lack necessities. She aspires to be a full-time human rights activist and humanitarian and explains, “If I was able to support myself financially and not have to work again in my life, that is what I would do. I have been following this pageant for almost 10 years, and I look forward to the entire journey.”
Jacqueline Juntilla Marsh
Hailing from Thunder Bay, Jacqueline Juntilla Marsh stands 180 cm tall and has graduated from Lakehead University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She is employed full-time at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Center as a registered nurse on a surgical floor. She describes herself as a confident, determined, and compassionate young woman who advocates for the opportunity for less fortunate youth in her community to engage in recreation such as arts, sports, and culture. She started her journey as the age of 18 and is proud to have raised awareness for different organizations and charities across Canada over the years. Jacqueline teaches Filipino Cultural dancing for the Filipino-Canadian Association of Thunder Bay youth and has performed at the Folklore Festival since the age of six.
Jaime VandenBerg
Hailing from Lethbridge, Jaime VandenBerg stands 175 cm tall and has graduated from University of Lethbridge and works as a model. She aspires to be human rights lawyer and is well known internationally for her activism and volunteerism towards gender equality. She received an international Diana Award for her humanitarian work and social change efforts abroad. Jaime volunteered at the Lethbridge YWCA’s Women of Distinction 2019 Ceremony as the events keynote speaker where she discussed her experiences and how she continued to fight gender-based violence through her role at the Lethbridge Police Station. She has travelled countries for work and India will always have a special place in Jaime’s heart, not only because of modelling but also because of her humanitarian work with Free the Children in Rajasthan. She believes that everything happens for a reason and that no goal is too big to achieve. The diva has published an article with Cosmopolitan Philippines discussing how to cope with harassment and her article reached a massive audience and opened discussions and pushed away the stigma of victim shaming based on clothing and other motives.
Kelsey Johnson
Hailing from London, Ontario, Kelsey Johnson stands 180 cm tall and has earned a Bachelor of Arts (Honors) degree from McMaster University, where she excelled at Political Science and Health Studies. She believes that women have the power to change the world. As an ambitious, confident, and hard-working individual, she strives to encourage others to see their full potential by celebrating who they are and embracing their differences. She has built a platform, based on self-love and acceptance, helped her to prove that it is possible to overcome any obstacle if you truly believe in yourself. Kelsey credits this mantra, as well as the love and support of her friends and family, for setting the foundation for her future success. She also managed to maintain a healthy active lifestyle, having participated in several coed sports. These experiences taught her the importance of time management and set precedence for her ongoing learning as she later obtained a Postgraduate degree in Public Relations from Humber College. As a global ambassador, she would use her platform to help people realize their full potential; encouraging them to believe in themselves and to pursue their dreams.
Kathy Spence
Hailing from Toronto, Kathy Spence stands 170 cm tall and works as entrepreneur who continuously striving to become a greater version of herself, and has always had a desire to encourage others to do the same. She currently holds two Honors Degrees in Communication Studies and Commerce, and is during completing her Master’s Degree in Public and International Affairs, concurrent with working full-time. She participated in various sports and activities, from the performing arts to football, emerging into a well-rounded and respected young woman. is an active member of her community with a strong passion for volunteering and charity work and strongly believes that giving back is an invaluable part of creating strong character and a stable community, learning the importance of philanthropy at a very young age. She has started her own charity, ‘Fly Away’, which is a self-esteem driven campaign, dedicated to working with this generations young women to develop a positive relationship within themselves, and understand the meaning of true beauty through the power of the arts. She believes that she is prepared and committed to take on the responsibility of representing Canada on a world stage, embodying the very essence that is Miss Universe.
Meera Patel
Hailing from Edmonton, Alberta & Calgary, Meera Patel stands 154 cm tall and works Marketing Consultant & CEO of Queen Kong Clothing. Born to Gujarati parents, the diva was was always told to use her strength in service to others. Meera is also the founder of Queen Kong Clothing which is a female empowerment tribe that connects women through bold statement fashion, where a portion of profits are donated to charity. This year’s selected charity is the Chhanv Foundation, a Non-Profit Organization in India working for the rehabilitation of acid attack survivors. Meera has experienced bullying at a young age but learned eventually that there were those who utilized the social media to publicly assassinate another’s character, reputation, and physical appearance. She had explained, “We must select our thoughts the same way we select our clothing every day; our thoughts dictate our feelings about ourselves, others, and any experiences we encounter in this world. Consciously choosing our thoughts is a skill we must cultivate if we want to stop identifying ourselves by our problems.”
Nova Stevens
Hailing from Vancouver, Nova Stevens stands 182 cm tall and works as Model, Actress, Spokesperson, Mentor, Activist. She describes herself as dynamic, resilient, persistent, and full of life woman. Nova is aware of the importance of fostering healthy development of children and youth from all walks of life. While continuing to work towards reuniting her family from whom she was separated at a UN Camp in South Sudan, she is continuously looking for opportunities to serve young Canadians as she is so grateful for the opportunities that being Canadian has given her. Nova is a co-founder and one of the spokespersons for ‘Freedom March Vancouver’ and ‘Black freedom society’ whose mission is to eradicate hate and racism experienced by black and indigenous people of color in our world today. As part of her commitment to the Miss Universe cause she has been passionately studying and raising awareness about ‘Feed it forward’ a Canadian not-for-profit with two main goals: to feed Canadians that are food insecure, and to reduce food waste. She also hopes to use this opportunity to shine a light on the issue of inequality and racism experienced by people of color.
Nicole Pegler
Hailing from Vancouver, Nicole Pegler stands 165 cm tall and works as a Radiation Clerk. The diva is a proud Filipina-New Zealander born and raised in Vancouver, British Columbia who became the Miss Philippines International of BC winner. This organization was created by a former Miss International Canada as a foundation for young women to thrive with their dedication, discipline, and personal development. She strives to promote health while advocating for education, greater integration of self-care and healthy lifestyles in our communities to prevent multiple comorbidities. Nicole exemplifies characteristics of an empowered woman with her cultural awareness, self-confidence, compassion for others and motivation to improve her well-being. She believes that by embodying resilience, gratefulness, and grace, she would excel as Miss Universe Canada and beyond.
