09 Mar 2021 | Angelique Reyes

The organization of Miss Universe Great Britain announced Jeanette Akua as their official representative for Miss Universe 2020 scheduled to take place on 16th May 2021 in Hollywood, Florida, United States. The announcement was made virtually due to the outbreak of pandemic and keeping the precautions in mind.  The diva has succeeded Miss Universe Great Britian 2019 Emma Jenkins of Wales for the title.

Hailing from London, Jeanette is 27-years-old. She has a master’s degree in International Economic Policy and Analysis and currently work as a business development manager at a leading economic consultancy. She is excited to represent Great Britain at Miss Universe 2020. She is also a pop singer/songwriter who was also a part of X Factor UK and Britain’s Got Talent and now wants to use her talent of singing and the platform of Miss Universe Great Britain to share her story to everyone out there.

After winning the title, Jeanette took to her social media to share that the win means so much to her as pageants are more than just being beautiful and is about celebrating women and the many layers women come in. “It's about being AUDACIOUS and having the nerve to pursue your dreams. Feeling the fear and doing it anyway. Thank you, God. My heart is so full,” she added. She thanked the entire organization and the team who helped her achieve what she desired for.

Jeanette is of South African descent and moved to the United Kingdom almost 10 years ago but she is highly influenced by the South African culture and embraces it equally. The strong, confident, and dedicated woman she is, she understands the need and necessity of making a change in the society especially when it comes to women.

The diva mentioned, “As the only female in my team, I have noticed a consistent lack of female representation in leadership positions. There are only seven female CEOs in FTSE 100 companies in the UK. This imbalance of power has made me determined to see more women in leadership. Women empowerment is therefore my core advocacy.” She further explained about her advocacy which is “Be Audacious” movement; a movement run by women for women. She was inspired to create and direct an all-female online series, bringing together female leaders from all over the universe.

“The series celebrates their achievements and inspires others through their stories of resilience. As part of the "Be Audacious" movement, I also wrote and released a song inspired by the stories of the incredible women who took part in the series,” she further added. Jeanette aspires to build an army of Audacious women who are unapologetic about who they are.

Jeanette is powerful, aware how to use her voice to make a change in the society and with her confidence and strong attitude, she could be one of the strongest contenders for the title of Miss Universe 2020. She has already started to prepare herself and has managed to impress the pageant fanatics with her humble, positive, and cheerful attitude.

Congratulations queen!
