The Miss Mexico Universe organization revealed Andrea Meza’s national costume for Miss Universe 2020 on 16th April 2021, through a social media post where they shared, “We are very excited to see our beautiful Universal Mexican 2020 in the Typical Costume that she will wear in Miss Universe.” The costume represents Alebrijje, a Mexican craft and is designed by Avelino Roque Osorio.

The Alebrije is a Mexican handicraft of a surrealist style that can be made of cardboard, paper or wood. Different techniques are used for its elaboration, model and development of the creation. It can have the shapes of amorphous creatures or imaginary fantastic beings with the peculiar characteristic of having picturesque and very striking colors.

Created in the most artisanal style and with very characteristic details that personify the Alebrije, inspired by Mexico and its culture, this design took shape. Thought of the dedication, effort, creativity and love that many artisans who have made it over the years put into it. It took a month and a half of hard work, and personal sewing, embroidery and painting.

Enriched with Mexican culture and showcasing the colourful craft of the country, this costume is certainly a stunning creation with exquisite details. Andrea’s charm and the majestic costume will definitely be a strong combination to watch out for.

Miss Universe 2020 will host the National Costume competition on 13th May 2021 with a live broadcast. Miss Universe Mexico 2020 Andrea Meza will represent Mexico at the 69th edition of Miss Universe on 16th May 2021 in the United States.
