After Miss Universe branched out from Binibining Pilipinas and began its preparation for the first ever solo edition i.e. Miss Universe Philippines 2020, the organization has been gearing up for big event. Miss Universe Philippines 2011 Shamcey Supsup-Lee, national director of Miss Universe Philippines organization, led the launch of the search of the diva who will be representing Philippines at Miss Universe 2020. Along with Shamcey, Miss Universe Philippines 2006 Lia Andrea Ramos, as head of Women Empowerment and Charity, and queen-maker Jonas Antonio Gaffud, as creative director of Miss Universe Philippines are also preparing for the competition.

The Miss Universe Philippines 2020 was scheduled to take place on 3rd May 2020 in Mall of Asia Arena, Bay City, Pasay, Metro Manila; where the delegates from all over the country will compete for the national title and a chance to represent the country at Miss Universe 2020. But since the outbreak of pandemic in the world the pre-pageant activities of the competition were on hold.

After a hiatus, the Miss Universe Philippines organization has released a video and a document, answered some of the essential questions in reference to the future of the pageant. “The pageant will be held in October 2020,” the organization said in a post on its official Facebook page on 5th May 2020.

The organization stated that the organization along with the delegates will take a step back and assess the role they could play in the ongoing crisis. The beautiful and positive Filipino delegates will take on their roles as leaders and do whatever they can to help people in such crisis.

Answering a question sent by Popbiz PH’s Gari Datugan, MUP Creative Director Jonas Antonio Gaffud said, “pageant enthusiasts can expect a more dynamic role of young women leaders around the Philippines. We also promise the final show in October will be one of a kind.”

The Miss Universe Philippines 2020 will embrace the essential three key roles that are needed in such times to fights and recover stated the national director. The three roles are Role Model, Harbinger of Hope and Rallying Points. To a question posed by pageant blogger Norman Tinio, MUP National Director Shamcey Supsup-Lee said, “we are confident in MUO’s operational resilience and in its ability to remain relevant both domestically and internationally. We are in touch with them and are regularly updated when there are changes in their strategic direction.”

The organization will be shifting its perspective, rewiring minds and habits or ways of doing on what the Miss Universe Philippines beauty pageant can be. The organization feels that it is more helpful to consider identity as a factor of orientation that enables the individual to take risk or courage from where ever they are. The organization has scheduled an entire process for the delegates to learn the essentials for the beauty pageant virtually.

The Miss Universe Philippines Organization will be releasing a series of journey of the contestants which will encourage them to be the best version of themselves. Their journey video will include their training, reflections, and   application of their lessons. Beginning from October 2020, the series will go on air every Saturday.

Good news for the pageant fanatics because they will be able to witness the preliminary interviews, swimsuit evaluation and evening gown competition. The portion of the proceedings will be donated to the charity who will be helping the people in need. The statement that was released on Facebook stated that the delegates will be separated in groups for the preliminary competitions, and “there will be no stage groupings.” Delegates will be wearing face masks, which they will remove only when they go onstage. They will be sent home after they have left the stage.

Lastly, for the main event, the organization has decided to keep is as close as possible. Only the judges, delegates and production people would be present. The venue would be big so that people are all together but keeping a safe distance from each other. No live audience will be allowed and most of the materials will be pre-taped so the organization must have minimal execution on stage.
