Rabiya Mateo was crowned Miss Universe Philippines 2020 on 25th October 2020 at Cordillera Convention Hall, Baguio and will be representing the Philippines at Miss Universe 2020. Recently, President Rodrigo Duterte’s commented on the presidency elections for 2022 that “women could no way run a country” following the talk that his daughter, Davao City mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, is hitting the 2022 presidency poll. He stated, “This is not for a woman. You know, the emotional setup of a woman and a man is totally different. It will drive you nuts. This is the sad story.”
The beauty queen who is an empowered woman herself and is making the best use of the platform she is given to help the women of her community stand up and work for their dreams and ambitions did not take the comment politely and disagreed to President’s remark over woman ruling a country. In a recent interview, she was asked about her point of view on the same and she said, “Women are as capable as men in handling a nation. I am a woman and I believe that my emotions do make part in my leadership skills and I have so much heart, I have so much calling in being a leader. I do disagree with this thought. I can lead the country because I have the power to do so.”
Rabiya went ahead and explained that the country she proudly calls her home already had two female leaders who set up the standard for the following leaders high and New Zealand is another country who has Jacinda Kate Laurell Ardern as the president and she was able to “nurse a new-born at the same time become a mother to all.”
The Filipina queen believes and stands up firm with the idea of equality in terms of opportunity and treatment in general for both genders. “I won’t agree with something like this because I know my capabilities and strengths as a woman. And I know I can make a difference, so much difference,” she said. Rabiya emphasised on how the world needs female leaders and leaders who will put their emotions into making decisions because sometimes the experience won’t come handy but emotions and being a mother of a country will help in running a country smoothly.
The pageant fanatics applauded Miss Universe Philippines 2020 Rabiya Mateo for the courage, strength, and confidence she showcased by speaking her truth and showcasing the women all around the world that if you want to do something, there is nothing that can stop you.
Truly, an inspiring and empowered queen!
