Miss Universe Philippines Design Council head Albert Andrada described the much-awaited national costume of Rabiya Mateo as ‘Fabulous’ which the stunning beauty will showcase at the National Costume competition to be held on 13th May 2021 in Florida.

The costume’s details, designed by the late Pinoy international designer Rocky Gathercole, have been kept a secret but Albert disclosed that it is inspired by the logo of the Miss Universe Philippines pageant. The logo carries the blue and red colors of the national flag with a lady reaching for the stars.

Andrada had put Bulacan-based jeweler Manny Halasan in charge to create the headpiece and accessories of the costume. Halasan’s creation, titled ‘missing piece’ of the Gathercole costume, was recently brought to Florida by Miss Universe Philippines national director Shamcey Supsup.

Halasan said he was also stunned by the vision of Gathercole in creating the gown, which will have a surprise element. World-famous for his avant garde gowns worn by celebrity A-listers, Gathercole was working on Mateo’s gown until he passed away in March 2021.

Miss Universe organization is all set to host the national costume competition which will take place on Thursday, 13th May 2021 at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel, Florida. The competition is a separate part of the pageant and doesn’t count towards contestants’ overall scores.
