Miss Universe organization has stripped off the Miss Universe Puerto Rico franchise from Miss Puerto Rico 1995 Desiree Lowry and Luisito Vigoreaux (Luis), the national producers of the national pageant.

This news came on 5th February 2018 when the now former producer Luis confirmed on the local radio station La Mega 106.9FM, “Yes, on Friday the people of the contest made a call to us based on negotiations that had been made with Wapa, those who have the new franchise, because then they did not renew the contract for us, which is renewed every year.”

Under the tutelage of Desiree, who had the local franchise since 2009, the Puerto Rican candidates qualified in semi-finals of Miss Universe pageant many times. In 2009, Mayra Matos was 4th runner-up, 2010 saw Mariana Vicente in Top 10, while Viviana Ortiz Pastrana and Monic Marie Pérez placed in Top 16 in 2011 and 2013 respectively.

Desirée Lowry reacted yesterday afternoon to the news released in the morning that the international organization of Miss Universe delivered the franchise of the local contest to WapaTV. In written statement, the model and businesswoman expressed proud of the work done she has done for the last 10 years with the producer Luisito Vigoreaux.

“I will always be proud of our achievements and candidates all worthy representatives of PR. Grateful to have had the task and although sad, positive with my current projects-I trust that the best is yet to come. I will not give more statements at the moment. Thank you.”

Though there’s still a chance that both the producers can return back in the scene as indicated by Luisito Vigoreaux. He said that he will hold a meeting with Wapa TV to see if they want him and Desiree to continue being involved in the contest in any way. So, there’s still some hope of their return.
