Miss Universe Puerto Rico organization, along with Wapa Television, hosted the preliminary competition of the 2022 edition tonight which was held in the historic Tapia Theater in Old San Juan.

The preliminary competition began with the presentation of the candidates, wearing outfits created by Puerto Rican designer Christopher Santana. Then, they paraded in swimsuits, designed exclusively for the occasion by Puerto Rican designer Tommie Hernández.

The most accomplished panel of jury for the preliminary competition included Luz Nereida Vélez - veteran journalist from “NotiCentro”, Vivian Santiago - lawyer and businesswoman, Doctor Carlos Izcoa – specialist in oral rehabilitation, Ana Teresa Toro – journalist, writer and columnist for local and Latin American media, Germán Legarreta – executive producer and casting film director, Frances Ríos - entrepreneur and founder of Women Who Lead, and Eli Cay, actor.

Singer-songwriter Christian Daniel performed his single ‘Si tú te vas’. At the event, several special prizes were awarded as well – The Best L'Oréal Hair was won by Miss Adjuntas 2022 Mariana Torres Bernard. The Best Ceravé and Vichy Skin was won by Miss Fajardo 2022 Ashley Ann Cariño. The Miss Photogenic award went to Miss Isabela 2022 Annelise Torres Colón. Ariana Hernández Miss Mayagüez 2022 was chosen as Miss Friendship.

Jorge Gelpí Pagán, the journalist from ‘NotiCentro’ and Nicole Chacón, the presenter of ‘Viva la tarde’, were in charge of hosting the event where the beauties paraded in swimsuits and in gala dresses before the public.
