18 Jun 2020 | Camilla Suarez

The coronation ceremony of Miss Universe Singapore 2020 will be held soon as the situation in the country eases down; where the delegates from all over the country will compete for the national title as well as an opportunity to represent Singapore at Miss Universe 2020 stage. Miss Universe Singapore 2019 Mohana Prabha will crown her successor at the end of the event finale.

With a list of delegates are being prepared, Iman Fandi Ahmad has caught our attention for the title as she seems like a potential and strong delegate to represent Singapore at Miss Universe 2020 stage. She is 20-years-old and 169 cm tall. She took a gap year from her studies in 2017 when she worked part-time at a hairdressing salon, took on modelling jobs and traveled the world. After her gap year, Iman pursued a private course in Psychology.

Iman was born to Singaporean footballer Fandi Ahmad and retired model Wendy Jacobs and is one of the interviews, her parents stated that they named her Iman which meant ‘faith’, in the hope that she would have faith to carry out “anything and everything she puts her mind to”. She became a vegan at 15 years old with the influence of her friend Sophia.

The diva started modeling at the age of 14 and hasn’t stopped since then. She rose to fame when she took part in The New Paper’s New Face 2014 competition during which she won following titles - "Miss Popularity" and "New Look Miss Fashionista". Following her success at the competition, she was featured on the front cover of Elle Magazine with models Fiona Fussi and Vivien Ong in January 2015. She has worked with various brands to earn experience and knowledge about beauty pageant and as on now, she is a model under LINK Models International. Iman has appeared on the covers of publications like Harper's Bazaar and Nylon. In June 2019, she was Nylon's Digital Cover Girl. She has endorsed brands like The Body Shop and Adidas. Alongside Joakim Gomez, Michelle Sng and Danial Ashriq, Iman is an Adidas Runner.

In 2019, Iman advocated about veganism, eco-friendliness, and anti-animal cruelty as a part of her brand identity. Iman has cited her mother as her motivation to pursue a career in modelling. In one of her interviews, Wendy stated, “I’m so proud of the young woman she’s become. She’s determined to do what she wants, and it’s nice that her passion ended up aligning with my passion. Her star is going to continue to rise, but I’ll be there if she stumbles – always.” Iman wants to pursue music, something that has always provided a creative outlet for the up-and-coming fashionista, whom her mother still refers to as her “princess”. “Mummy has always given me tips on how to pose, how to behave professionally at photo shoots, and she’s introduced me to the right people in the industry. It’s changed a little bit since I’ve grown older; I used to attend events with her, but now she comes to events with me,” she shares.

Iman explains that she feels proud when people tell her that she looks like her mother. She mentioned that her mother has such a good reputation in the beauty pageant world and people talk so highly of her which is why when someone tells her that she is like her, she feels honored. Iman and Wendy share the same looks; piercing chocolate eyes, full lips, exquisite bone structure and natural bouncy curls.

The mother-daughter duo feels that through thick and thin, they’ll be friends forever. Iman stated, “I feel really lucky because when I listen to my friends talk about how strict their parents are, it really makes me appreciate my parents more because they have never held me back. The greatest gift they’ve given me is independence.” Iman states that Wendy is her inspiration and she has learnt a lot from her and she makes her work hard to be a better person every day. Iman is strong, confident, and determined with her goals and dreams. She wants to make her country and parents proud and Miss Universe Singapore 2020 could be that.

If Iman decides to participate, she can be a tough contender as she is experienced and has Wendy Jacobs to help throughout her journey.
