Hoang Thuy will be representing Vietnam for the title of Miss Universe 2019 in Atlanta on 8th December 2019. The model began her career in 2011 after she was crowned Vietnam’s Next Top Model. Hoang was the first runner up at Miss Universe Vietnam 2017. Two years later, the model was appointed to represent Vietnam for the title of Miss Universe 2019.
Since she was nominated to be a representative of Vietnam for the title of Miss Universe, Hoang has worked with high determination spirit, focusing her time in learning skills to be well prepared for the competition. The model is 27 years old which is the maximum age limit for participating in the competition. So, this comes as Hoang’s first and final try to win the crown for her country.
Hoang Thuy will be depicting costume inspired by Ca phe sua da (Filter Coffee with condensed milk) at the Miss Universe 2019 coronation night. The costume designed by designer Tran Nguyen Minh Duc for the model, pays tribute to one of Vietnam’s most popular beverages- milk coffee.
The costume features a bedazzled jumpsuit with tons of beading details. The bodysuit is made tight to help Hoang Thuy showcase her physique along with the lines that are attached as the flow of filter coffee. The costume includes a large spoon as a prop, filter headpiece and cup skirt. The coffee cup element was removed after the model expressed her concerns with finding it difficult to move with the dress.
When the 27-year-old model was asked about her view on the costume that represents and pays tribute to her country’s most popular beverage, she stated, “Filter coffee with condensed milk is a favorite drink of many international friends. I believe I will give my best performance with this costume at the Miss Universe contest”.
The costume survived two rounds of voting and earned its place amongst the top three entries in a design contest that is held in Vietnam to choose the national costume. The other two designs were Co or Stork, (Nguyem Duc Liem) and Land of nine dragons (Hoang Huu Kha).

It’s not surprising to see a model donning a food inspired costume at a beauty pageant. Last year, a creative banh mi outfit which featured Vietnamese bread won the national costume design contest. The costume was worn by H’hen Nie for the title of Miss Universe 2018 where she finished in the top five.
