Mireia Lalaguna – The first ever Spanish woman to win Miss World

Mireia Lalaguna, from Spain, created history in 2015 when she became the first ever Spanish woman to be crowned Miss World. The 65th edition of Miss World was held on 19th December 2015 in Sanya, China. The 2015 edition was also the first one where no swimsuit round was held at Miss World.

Born in Barcelona in 1992, Mireia got her bachelor’s degree in pharmacy at the University of Barcelona, Spain. Standing 177 cm tall, Lalaguna is also a model and an actor. Winning Miss World for her country was a transformative year for Lalaguna as she went from being a pharmacy student to a beauty queen who inspired change in the society.

At the finale of Miss World 2015, Lalaguna, dressed in a spectacular blue dress, was asked why she should be crowned Miss World 2015 to which she replied, “I think I should be the next Miss World because I believe in strong women. Also, I always try to give my best. I believe in Beauty with a Purpose and I can continue its legacy. I want to show the world how to love and share, give the best of ourselves and show everyone how to find happiness in helping each other.”

As Miss World 2015, Lalaguna traveled to England, India, Puerto Rico, the Philippines, the United States, Russia, China, South Korea, South Africa, Ghana, Indonesia, Kenya, Mexico, Brazil, Italy and Jersey.

After her Miss World journey, Mireia received training as an actress and a communicator and has worked in various tv series. She has also served as a host, with her most remarkable project being a commercial alongside Christiano Ronaldo and Aaron Paul. As a public figure in Spain, Mireia has worked towards betterment of the society with her title and crown.

Her journey as Miss World has instilled a deep sense of empathy and joy of giving back to the community. Lalaguna has also donated a part of her advertising campaign, from an online gaming platform, to a local centre for children with autism. She now serves as a role model for women across the world, engaging in philanthropic endeavors and changing the world one story at a time.
