Time for a Latina Miss World?

25 Nov 2015 | Angelopedia

Latinas are known to rule Miss Universe pageant! It will be surprising if a Latina fails to make cut in Top 5 spot during the coronation night of Miss Universe. But as we all know, time is never static, it revolves and evolves, bringing sometimes welcomed and sometimes unwelcomed changes. Miss World on the other hand, has been crowning Asians quite frequently. The last Latina to have won the Miss World crown was Ivian Sarcos from Venezuela. This year Latinas are back in game at Miss World!

Miss World unlike Miss Universe is not merely about grandeur in beauty and confidence, but is much more than that. Year after year, Latinas and Europeans send striking delegates at Miss World pageant, but they fall short of making the cut in semi-finals, due to lack of commitment in “Beauty with a Purpose” or lack of convincing power while facing the masses. But this year seems to be an auspicious one for Latinas.  With the delegates like Brazil, Mexico and Colombia, Latina’s win at Miss World, if it happens, will not be astonishing.

Time for a Latina Miss World?

Miss World Brazil, Catharina Choi Nunes, was already marked as a front runner before she arrived in Sanya! Being a pageant veteran, bagging Miss Earth Fire elemental crown at Miss Earth 2013, she knows how to play her cards well. A perfect package of humbleness, intelligence and confidence, she is now vying to bring the Miss World crown to Brazil after 44 years. Having a fit body, with strikingly angelic face, Catharina is surely an eye catching personality in the competition.

Mexico has undergone a huge controversy earlier this year when the former President of Miss Universe Organization, Donald Trump expressed his disconcerting views regarding the nation. A renowned rivalry between Miss World and Miss Universe organization will indubitably fetch a soft corner for Miss World Mexico, Yamelin Cota in Julia Morley’s heart.

It has not been long when Colombia had its second Miss Universe crown. With Paulina Vega still reigning as the Miss Universe, Colombia’s probability to firm its feet on the Miss World map is likeable. Apart from that, Miss World Colombia, Maria Alejandra is an altruistic lady, who aspires to use her medical degree to develop low cost medicines. She opines that if she goes on to win Miss World she will save lives of thousands of children that need help. Supposed to have instigated a strong “Beauty with a Purpose” project, Maria’s inclusion in the press interview, makes her chances incredibly vivid at the pageant. A strong presence in social media with her fashoniesta attitude, Maria is an absolute head turner.

Miss World Panama, a Law & Political Science graduate, Diana Ortega’s strong sense of responsibility towards her community, is evident in the traces of her “Beauty with a Purpose” project. Diana works as a PR officer & lawyer for the Ayudando a Vivar Foundation, an organization which provides a range of services for susceptible women and youths in her community. Being shortlisted as one of the delegates in the inaugural press interview event is a proof enough that she is positively making waves.

Miss World Uruguay, Sherika De Armas has a weak sash but an exceptionally strong demeanor. A student working part time as a model, Sherika was also one of the shortlisted delegate for the inaugural press interview. An aficionado of the industry, and an aspirant journalist, Sherika’s eloquence will unquestionably take her a long way. If she places high as Miss World Hungary 2014 despite of bearing a weak sash, we would not be surprised, for Miss World looks for a personality, not just a beautiful face.

Bubbling up in the combat for crown are Dominican Republic and Venezuela. The clearer frame will get unveiled only once the fastrack challenges unfold. Do you believe Latinas have a shot at Miss World crown this year?
