Miss World 2017 has a new pattern to decide the Top 40 contenders this year which includes Head to Head challenge, fast track round and judges’ selection. The Head to Head challenge of the competition has already begun where the queens are competing to enter the Top 40 spot. Girls are divided into 20 groups of 6 candidates each for this challenge. Let’s see what happened in the Group 1 Head to Head challenge.

The queens of Italy, Angola, Austria, Guadeloupe, Georgia, and Bahamas were the first to face the Head to Head challenge, being the part of Group 1. In the challenge, first, the introductory video of a candidate was shown, after which the host, Frankie Cena asked each contestant a follow-up question to the candidate about her life, profession or her native country, to break the ice and also judge them on their confidence and communication skills.

Following that the famous anchor Barney Walsh took everyone behind the scenes to take a look at the happenings of Miss World competition where he met all the contestants for the first time. There he talked to all the queens to get to know them better and let them share their life’s experiences while having some fun.

After that, the main segment of the challenge happened in which Frankie asked the girls a common question, the answer to which will define their fate in this round.

The final question asked to the girls was, “It is estimated that up to 26 million tonnes of plastic waste ends up in the ocean each year, killing millions of marine creatures. How would you help solve this problem?”

Starting with Geena Thompson Miss World Bahamas 2017 who answered -

“The Bahamas is surrounded by Ocean & water, while half of the population depends on scuba diving, snorkelling and eating fishes. So this is a very near and dear problem to me. So, I would encourage people to reduce the amount of plastic they use or think about ways to recycle plastic and not throw plastic into the Ocean.

Trailing by Ketino Shekelashvili Miss World Georgia 2017 answered –

“Indeed this is the largest problem. I would like to be part of an organization to help with the problem.”

Then Audrey Berville Miss World Guadeloupe 2017 said –

“I think this question effects me a lot because in Guadeloupe we have this same problem with turtles. I think that humans could try harder to fix the problem. We could make recycling more fun. Maybe we could create boxes to gather the waste and find a practical use for that.”

Fourth to answer was Sarah Chvala Miss World Austria 2017, who expressed that –

“I think there are two parts to this problem, to get the waste that is already in the ocean out and to prevent more waste coming in. So, for the first part of the problem, I would collect money for upcoming scientists, that invent ways to get the waste out of the Ocean that is hurting the marine creatures and for the second part I would encourage waste-free super markets.”

After that Judelsia Bache Miss World Angola 2017 answered that –

“To resolve this problem, I would like to create an organization. I would create awareness and educate other people about recycling their plastics in order to reduce marine pollution.”

Last Conny Notarstefano Miss World Italy 2017 answered –

“I would like to create awareness among people to discover about a project that converts plastic waste into sea-beans and it works naturally using the power of the sun. So, it would be nice to organize some meetings in the public area to let people discover this project and raise money to help this project to grow up and solve this problem.”

We think Sarah Chvala from Austria gave the best answer.

With this the first Head to Head challenge came to its conclusion and results will be announced in one of the future episodes.
