Miss World 2021 Beauty with a Purpose winners announced

The 70th edition of the Miss World pageant is all set to be hosted on 16th December 2021 at the José Miguel Agrelot Coliseum in San Juan, Puerto Rico where delegates from all over the world will compete for the coveted crown. The reigning Miss World 2019 Toni-Ann Singh of Jamaica will crown her successor at the end of the event.

One of the most important elements of the pageant has been the Beauty with a Purpose event, an event established in 1972 that is celebrated during the activities prior to the Miss World pageant. It awards the contestant with the most relevant and important charity project in her nation. Since 2005 the winner automatically makes the quarter finals.

This year, the organization had recently announced the Top 10 for Beauty with a Purpose round, out of which six divas have been announced as the tied winners for the title and have all secured their spots in the Top 30 semi-finalists. The winners of the Beauty with a Purpose round of Miss World 2021 are Shudufhadzo Musida of South Africa, Rehema Muthamia of England, Sharon Obara of Kenya, Shree Saini of United States, Tracy Maureen Perez of Philippines and Manasa Varanasi of India.

South Africa’s Shudufhadzo’s Beauty With a Purpose project was the Mindful Monday project that she hosted every Monday on Instagram and Facebook about mental health and her children’s book, Shudu Finds Her Magic. During Shudufhadzo Musida's reign as Miss South Africa she made it her mission to promote mental health, using her voice to shift attitudes and to remove the stigma attached to mental illness. From Mindful Monday episodes to ‘Shudu finds her magic’ children's book, she has definitely left her mark and we wish her well in her journey to Miss World.

Miss World England 2021 Rehema's Beauty With A Purpose project, which she has named 'Phoenix rising' is focused on raising awareness about domestic abuse, educating the youth & eradicating the shame surrounding the issue. Rehema is an ambassador for Women's Aid & One Woman at a time; Charities working to end domestic abuse in Women & Children. She has raised funds for them by bungee jumping, Charity walk & various other activities.

Sharon Obara of Kenya hopes to bring to light awareness on mental health issues “because the pandemic has taken a toll on a lot of people especially mentally, so we are championing for inclusivity and ways in which we can help each other to make ourselves better and tomorrow even better.” She also added, “Mental health has been a taboo subject that people shunned away from talking about and that is why my Beauty with a Purpose has been destigmatizing access to mental healthcare.As a psychologist,this is not only my project but my life's purpose.”

As a national spokeswoman for the American Heart Association, to help raise funds for heart health and healthcare, USA’s Shree Saini has raised $45,000 for variety children’s charity, up to $200,000 for hundreds of nonprofits for the last 10 years and half a million rupees R520,000 raised for covid relief.

Tracy's ‘Para Kay Nanay’ (For My Mother) is an initiative for single mothers in her community in Cebu, Philippines. "A Single Mother's Journey to Love - that is my Beauty with a Purpose project and is dedicated to my late mother and to all single mothers in my community. Being a mother is the most important job. It's the most important role; yet oftentimes, they are neglected. We fight so much - we talk so much of women empowerment - so why don't we start by empowering our mothers, most especially those who go through so much difficulties having to raise their families all on their own," Tracy shared.

Miss World India 2020 Manasa Varanasi’s 10-9-8 project aims to strengthen the child protection system in India. Manasa chose this name as 1098 is a child helpline number that is easy to remember yet still unknown to many people. The project is being supported by the Hyderabad City Police Commissioner, Anjani Kumar and Senior IPS Officer, Shikha Goel. Manasa’s goal is to spread awareness how a young child in distress can reach out for help with a simple number.
