Jamaica’s outstanding performance at Miss World

01 Aug 2023 | Priya Bhardwaj

Jamaica stands second tied with United Kingdom at the Miss World leaderboard holding four Miss World crowns each. The country has produced outstanding beauty queens who have shown immense capabilities to be a winner and become ideal representatives of Jamaica to bring a change with their philanthropic endeavors.

The country pioneered its win at Miss World in 1963 when Carole Crawford was crowned the winner. She was the first delegate from the Caribbean to be crowned with the prestigious crown. The next crown came to Jamaica in in 1976 when Cindy Breakspeare won the Miss World crown.  The third crown was won by Lisa Hanna in 1993. Hanna currently serves as Member of Parliament for Saint Ann Southeast.

After a little bit of a rut, the country made a strong comeback in 2012 and has managed to win a placement (and a crown!) every year except for 2014 and 2016. In 2012, Deanna Robins represented Jamaica at Miss World 2015 and won the 5th runners-up position. She won Caribbean Queen of Beauty and placed Performing Talent (Top 5), Beauty with a Purpose (Top 10), Top Model (Top 10), Sports and Fitness (Top 24) and Beach Beauty (Top 40).

In 2013, Gina Hargitay represented Jamaica at Miss World 2016 and placed in the Top 10. In 2015, Sanneta Myrie was adjudged 3rd runner-up. She won Caribbean Queen of Beauty and placed Performing Talent (2nd Runner-up), Best in Interview (4th Runner-up) and Multimedia Award (Top 5).

Toni-Ann Singh Miss World 2019

In 2017, Solange Sinclair represented Jamaica at Miss World 2017 and placed in the Top 10 winning Caribbean Queen of Beauty award. In 2018, Kadijah Robinson placed in the Top 5 and in 2019, Toni-Ann Singh made history braking the drought for her country and being crowned Miss World 2019. She is also the longest-reigning Miss World in the history of the pageant. At 2021, Khalia Hall represented Jamaica at Miss World 2021 but unfortunately did not place in the Top 40.
