30 Oct 2021 | Angelique Reyes

The 49th edition of Miss Intercontinental was held on Friday night, 29th October 2021 at Hotel Sunrise Diamond Beach Resort in Sharm El Sheik, Egypt, where Cinderella Faye Obeñita of Philippines was crowned as Miss Intercontinental 2021 by preceding Miss Intercontinental 2019 Fanni Mikó of Hungary. This is Philippines’ second Miss Intercontinental title after Karen Gallman won it in 2018.

The stage setting at the coronation night was unique this year as a beautiful pillar like structure stood in middle of the stage and set-forth the festivities directly under a starry sky accompanied with rich music and various themes. The competition was executed smoothly on the Friday night with a few glitches in the live streaming of the event on their official YouTube channel. The pre-pageant activities kick started three weeks ago where delegates participated in preliminary contests that led to the finale night.

The show kicked off with the national costume round where delegates from different countries displayed their heritage through their flamboyant attires but Dominican Republic’s golden ensemble stole the show followed by Bella Aprilla Sant of Indonesia who wore a ravishing headgear.

The competition followed the Top 20 – Top 5 format this year. Out of over 70 delegates from all across the world, the top 20 finalists were chosen by the judges, and then the top-5, followed by revealing the winner and her court at the end.

The show was hosted by Sarah Teshna, an actress and media personality from Kenya and Maria Zaky, one of the members of marketing team of the Sunrise group. The esteemed judging panel contained of the gorgeous Miss Intercontinental 2019 Fanni Miko, Miss Intercontinental 2013 Ekaterina Plekhova, the business and marketing director of Sunrise and Beach Resort among others. One of the key people present at the event was none other than the man who brought this all to life, Detlef Tursies, CEO of Miss Intercontinental organization.

The winners for the preliminary competitions were announced along the run of the event. Mexico bagged both the Best in Swimsuit award and Best in Body award whereas Miss Power of Beauty award went to Kaitlyn Li of Canada.

Moving further into the night, the much-awaited question and answer segment of the competition took place amongst the candidates of Mexico, Seychelles, England, Canada, Colombia and Philippines, i.e., the Top 6. Both Cinderella Faye Obeñita of Phillippines and Romy Simpkins of England gave beautiful answers and impressed the judges with their wits and humility.

Successfully produced and hosted by the Miss Intercontinental organization, this year’s edition was full of excitement, thrill and surprises. We wish our heartiest congratulations to the newly crowned queen and all the other contestants for a blockbuster edition.
