Miss Universe 2016 ongoing rumours

05 Oct 2016 | Angelopedia

After the much talked about controversial finale of Miss Earth India 2016, it looks like the pageants these days are cluttered in the race to become the most successful controversy of the year. Now it might sound funny, but come to think about it and you will see it.

The latest buzz that is going around the internet is about the Miss Universe pageant. Flying rumours suggest that the Miss Universe pageant might not take place in the Philippines. The news came from the official Facebook page of the current National Director of Miss World Singapore, Ines Ligron.

Ines was awarded the Best National Director of Japan in the year 2007.

However, few days back the Department of Tourism rubbished all the rumours about the cancellation of the Miss Universe 2016 pageant in Philippines. “We are not aware of any cancellation for Miss Universe. We are still having ongoing meetings with the MUO. Let us wait for official announcements before jumping into any conclusion,” DOT Undersecretary Kat De Castro said.

“Those cancellation rumours on Miss Universe, are simply just that… rumours. Please wait for official announcements soon from MUO. Thank you,” she said.

The possibility of the rumour, as some suggest, might also be the reigning Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach’s latest Facebook Live chat. Pia has been in the Philippines for over a week now and when asked what her birthday wish was, Pia said, “I'm really hoping and praying that the pageant will be held here and we're working very hard in making that happen. It's always been a dream of mine to have the pageant here.”

According to her, even Miss Universe Organization's president Paula Shugart wants the pageant to be staged in the country.

“It's always been a dream of hers as well to have the pageant here. It's kind of like everybody's dream. We want the pageant to be in the Philippines. We're waiting, working hard, and making sure everything's okay. We'd get the approval of everyone so that it can finally happen,” Pia said.

The Filipina beauty queen added, “I'm keeping my fingers crossed and if that happens, it's gonna be historical. I may not have had my first walk but I will have my final walk here, at home.”

Does that mean the venue isn’t confirmed yet? Is there still room for confusion? What do you think of these rumours?
