At the conclusion of the finale of Miss Universe Iceland 2016 held on 12th September 2016 Hildur Maria Leifsdóttir was crowned as the winner. Hildur will now represent the country in the Miss Universe 2016 pageant to be held on 30th January 2016. Hildur will be the first representative of Iceland at Miss Universe after 2009.

 23 years old Hildur hailing from Kópavogur is a flight attendant at Icelandair. The beauty queen has a passion for travelling, meeting new people and learning different cultures of the countries. Her dream is to travel around the globe and visit every country in the world. Hilder wants to build animal shelters around the world as her legacy. The beauty loves playing sports and has been playing handball for the past 15 years. Her favourite activity during winters is snowboarding.

Hildur defeated 20 girls to clinch the title of Miss Universe Iceland 2016. At the same pageant,  Sigrún Eva Ármannsdóttir was adjudged the first runner-up and Andrea Sigurðardóttir was titled second runner-up.
