Venezuela to join license change bidding war for Miss Universe?

10 Feb 2023 | Priya Bhardwaj

With the recent franchise change news at Miss Universe as the national directors were emailed by MUO and asked to bid for the license fee, no national organization is safe anymore. For Venezuela as well, there are now rumors that people are interested in bidding for the license of Miss Universe.

If that is true, the license could be gone from the hands of another one of MUO’s longtime and loyal partners, Miss Venezuela, one of the most iconic pageants in Venezuela. Julio Ce´sar Cruz, current director of Miss Supranational Venezuela and Miss Earth Venezuela, is also interested in bidding for the Miss Universe license. Prince also holds licenses for other pageants for Cuba so it is rumored that he is interested in getting the Cuba license for Miss Universe too as well.

Miss Venezuela crowned its 2022 representative last November. Diana Silva, Miss Venezuela 2022, also happens to be the former Miss Venezuela Earth 2018, crowned under the directorship of none other than Prince Julio. It is also unknown what will happen with Diana’s participation in case someone overtakes the license at Miss Universe 2023.

Miss Venezuela 2021 Amanda Dudamel represented her country at Miss Universe 2022 which was held on 14th January 2023 in New Orleans, USA where she was adjudged as the first runner-up. If the Miss Venezuela organization loses the license, Amanda could very well be the last representative of Miss Venezuela to represent her country at Miss Universe.
