Iris Mittenaere’s victory as Miss Universe 2016 ended France’s 63 year old long drought at the pageant. While the entire France celebrated her victory, many have already started question of whether or not France will make a back to back at the pageant this year. Alicia Aylies, who was crowned Miss France 2017 last year, will represent the country at the Miss Universe 2017 pageant.

There have been bizarre rumours that Alicia is not very happy with Iris’ victory, as apparently, Iris’ victory has lessened Alicia’s media coverage. Rubbishing all the rumours, Alicia made it clear that she is in fact happy with Iris’ victory and the beauty hopes to bring a back to back victory for France this year. According to Alicia, there have been back to back win before, and she is confident on bringing the crown home for the third time this year.
 
Miss France 2017 Alicia Aylies started facing racist comments right after her crowning. The social media showed disappointment by fans and many started posting racist comments. One of the Twitteratis posted, “#MissFrance2017 is from another continent. National Humiliation. One more. Our identitiy is dragged through the mud.”
 
Alicia is from Frence Guiana, which is a French territory located in South America. Hence there were many who went ahead and said that French Guiana is not France, and the woman who represents France should be Caucasian. Alicia, who is a first year law student, is the first representative of French Guiana to win the Miss France competition. The beauty is least bothered about all the controversial remark and had instead decided to keep her calm about the whole matter.
 
Alicia kept her grace and poise and replied, “People may need to see a Miss France of color. I represent the overseas, it is a matter of pride for me.” Alicia is more focused on her training and aims to make the best out of the time that she has to prepare herself for next year. The beauty queen has decided to focus on all the positivity and ignore the negative remarks.
