Colombia’s Intensifying Graph at Miss Universe in A Decade

Looking at Colombia’s electrifying presentation at Miss Universe in the last decade, it is assuredly certain that the Latin American country has got intoxicated with success feat at the said pageant. In the last decade Colombia has placed seven times at Miss Universe, producing two runner ups and one winner.

Colombia debuted at Miss Universe in 1958 and won the Miss Universe crown in its first attempt through Luz Marina Zuluaga Zuluaga, who became the first Colombian to bring home the crown. After Luz Marina, Ella Cecilia Escandón Palacios became the first Colombian to enter the Top 5 of Miss Universe pageant, thereby winning the 3rd Runner-up position at Miss Universe 1974. During Miss Universe 1992, 1993 and 1994 Paola Turbay Gómez, Paula Andrea Betancourt Arroyave and Carolina Gómez Correa were adjudged as 1st Runner-up respectively, but could not attain the crown.

In the last decade, Colombia has placed seven times at Miss Universe pageant. In Miss Universe 2004, Catherine Daza was honored as a Top 10 finalist. With a toned body, sparkling smile and beaming face, Catherina blazed the runway as she graced in her swimsuit. The diva with her angelic face lit million faces.

In Miss Universe 2006, Valerie Domínguez was announced as a Top 10 finalist. Not only did Valerie looked spectacular in her sizzling bathing suit but was highly graceful during the evening gown segment. Valerie, who is now a distinguished Colombian actress, model, and a renowned jewelry designer, won million hearts during the competition and is even celebrated for her beauty today.

Subsequently, Taliana Vargas’s top notch performance at Miss Universe 2008 made her almost the winner as she was adjudged as 1st runner-up in the competition. Taliana, who is presently a Colombian actress, model and a celebrated television personality, glistened during the finale gala of Miss Universe 2008 beautifully. In the swimsuit competition, she received the highest score with 9.433, thus entering the top 10 in first place. During the evening gown portion, she received one of the highest televised scores in recent years which were 9.829. Her placement as 1st Runner-Up was the highest one of Colombia in the last decade until Paulina Vega's win in 2014.

Natalia Navarro, the very fierce beauty marked yet another luminous performance of Colombia at Miss Universe 2010 by entering into the Top 15 semi-finalists spot. As the official representative of her country to the 2010 Miss Universe pageant, Navarro became one of the Top 15 semifinalists and the only South American contestant in the finale, placing 12th overall. Natalia’s exuberant beauty is praised globally even today.

Catalina Robayo marked the second consecutive placement of Colombia in Miss Universe by entering into Top 16 semi finalists spot at Miss Universe 2011.  María Catalina Robayo Vargas is currently a Colombian lawyer and model. The exotic beauty blazed the runway in her swimsuit beamingly.

Thereafter, Colombia’s most luminous dawn took the front in 2014 when Paulina Vega wore the sash of Colombia at Miss Universe 2014. Paulina was a heavy favorite of crowd even before the competition began. The Colombian model and Television Host beat 88 other crown contenders, thereafter becoming the first Colombian in 56 years to win the Miss Universe crown. Vega debuted the pageant's new crown as designed by Diamonds International Corporation. Paulina looked effervescently graceful in the Barraza gown during the finale. During her reign, Vega traveled to Bahamas, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Ecuador, France, India, Indonesia, Italy, Kazakhstan and numerous trips around the USA.

2015 was yet another incandescent year for Colombia, as Colombia almost won Miss Universe crown, and even wore the gorgeous crown before the real titleholder wore it due to the fiasco made by the host of the show, Steve Harvey.  Miss Universe Colombia 2015, Ariadna Gutierrez made no stone unturned to mark a back to back victory for her nation. The diva made her nation proud by winning the first runner up spot despite of the fact that the reigning Miss Universe at that time belonged to her own nation. She is truly magnificent and has the compelling aura to make million hearts skip a beat, it is always hard to ignore this captivating charmer.

After the crowning fiasco that happened in the latest edition, and looking at the present performances by Colombian delegates it is quite evident, that Colombia’s graph will intensify even more with passing years and we would not be surprised if Colombia bags it third Miss Universe crown very soon.
