On April 25’ 2015 Zimbabwe crowned Emily Kachote, 25, as Miss World Zimbabwe 2015 and will now represent Zimbabwe at the Miss World 2015 pageant. Not many days have passed and there is this controversy chasing the pageant. The selection of Emily Kachote as the Miss World Zimbabwe 2015 evoked uproar among the crowd and prompted an unpleasant criticism on social media.

Social media was populated by comments and repulsive behaviour from people. "Where is her beauty? Why didn't they just say they couldn't get a winner this year?" wrote one of several Facebook and Twitter users. The hullabaloo has gone as far as Emily’s old images being circulated on net and being made a laughing stock.

According to sources Zimbabweans have come up in support of the newly-elected Miss World Zimbabwe and rallied, after the locals said she was “ugly”. "Emily should never need to be defended. But because of the relentless mob we feel we have to. Emily did something many would never be willing to do. She opened herself up to the scrutiny of the whole world and allowed herself to be judged." posted a local Popular Harare blog 3-mob.com. If sources are to be believed, Emily was also unfavourably compared to South Africa's Miss World contestant Liesl Laurie.

Several previous title holders also came in defense of Emily Kachote, including Miss Zimbabwe 2004 Lorraine Maphala-Phiri. "Miss World isn't only about outlook, it's about the whole package... I also agree that... comparing our queen with Miss South Africa isn't fair" said Lorraine. Many tweeted in support of the newly crowned - Twitter user Natasha Tendai tweeted: "Why are people mad? She's beautiful wani...#MissZim2015".

User Adolf Mugandiwa said: "She is beauty of her own league. She can surprise us in many ways." The social war against and in favour of the Miss Zimbabwe 2015 is getting ferocious. What is your opinion on the unpleasant act?

The contest is run by the wife of Zimbabwe's army chief Constantine Chiwenga. Financial adviser by profession, Emily Kachote was given Zimbabwe's top modelling title in a ceremony in Harare. She will represent Zimbabwe in the Miss World contest.
