The former Miss Universe Lupita Jones, who is also the first Mexican woman to ever win the crown in 1991, has finally resigned from the position of director of Mexicana Universal organization. Lupita originally produced the pageant as Nuestra Belleza México in association with the Televisa TV network.
Cynthia de la Vega, another former Miss Mexico, will now be replacing Lupita as the new director of Mexicana Universal/Miss Universe Mexico. Miss Universe Mexico organization confirmed Cynthia de la Vega as its new director in a press conference alongside Raúl Rocha Cantú, the owner of the franchise in Mexico, and Miss Universe owner Anne Jakrajutatip.
“It fills me with joy to reach this moment in my life. With this new organization, we seek excellence, forming a team of quality and a solid structure. We are going to return to our roots as ‘Miss Universe Mexico’, propelling girls towards greatness”, Vega quoted.
De la Vega was a previously crowned Nuestra Belleza Mundo México who was dethroned and replaced in 2011. Cynthia will now be responsible for crowning the new representative of Mexico to represent the country at Miss Universe 2024.
