The Philippines has selected the perfect representative for Miss Tourism World 2017 - Marian Angelu Perez Alcantara. Marian hails from Melbourne and represented the Filipino overseas community of Melbourne in Miss Tourism Philippines 2017.
Marian is now all set to rock the international stage with her charm and beauty when she competes for Miss Tourism World 2017 in Malaysia and starts off as a favourite to win the title of Miss Tourism World 2017 for her country.
In an interview with Angelopedia, the beautiful Marian shared her thoughts, experiences, and aspirations in the world of pageantry. Below is the transcript of her interview...
Q. Congratulations on winning Miss Tourism Philippines 2017, how does it feel?
Thank you so much. I feel extremely honoured to be representing my country on the international stage. I still have my moments where I can't believe that I'm the new Miss Tourism Philippines. After the coronation night is where the real work starts and I am willing to do my very best to best represent my country on January 27.
Q. What was your inspiration behind stepping into the glamorous world of beauty pageants?
I never thought I'd ever join a beauty pageant. I was asked to join and at first, I hesitated because I felt I wasn't adequate enough. However, with my mother's encouragement, my passion for travelling, and deep desire to help others, I decided to take the leap and challenge myself.
Q. How confident and prepared are you for the Miss Tourism World 2017?
As of now, although I've got the basic skills required, I want to improve myself further by preparing physically, mentally and spiritually. I know that the international competition will be a challenge and will be even more competitive, so I'm determined to do all I can to make my country proud.
Q. What is your biggest strength which you think can make you win the Miss Tourism World 2017?
I think my biggest strength would have to be my youth. As part of the "millennial" generation, I've got a lot of creative and fresh ideas that I can bring to the organisation. Also, being born in the Philippines and raised in Australia has given me exposure to vast cultures and nationalities. Because of this, I'm able to communicate better to my peers and have gained a sense of understanding and a deeper respect for others.
Q. Would you like to share some uniquely saccharine moments of your childhood with us?
When I think of saccharine moments, I think of my parents. Growing up and even till this day, they've always been very sweet and affectionate. As I child, my instinctual response was to cringe. But now, I admire their love and told myself that I wouldn't want to settle for anything less than that in the future; because their love and support is what built the foundation of who I am today.
Q. One thing about your country that you would like to share with the entire world?
My country, the Philippines consists of diverse cultures, beautiful Islands and delicious food. But I believe the true beauty of my country is in the people. Filipinos have a way of welcoming others with so much warmth and love. I think that's the reason so many people come back is that we can give you an experience that's not only unique but unforgettable. I'm inviting everyone around the world to experience first-hand the beauty of the Philippines.
Q. What according to you define femininity? Who is the most treasured female figure in your life?
To m, femininity is defined by a woman's ability to embrace the gifts associated with our gender. As women, we are naturally more in tune with our emotions and this allows us to be more compassionate. We can use this to connect with others in a deeper way. My mother is my most treasured female figure in my life, simply because she has supported me in everything I have set my mind to do. She has shown me unconditional love and guidance.
Q. If not a beauty queen, what would you have aspired to be?
I was actually deciding between two career options, but I knew I wanted my future job to require travelling. One was being a flight attendant and the other was joining the air force.
Q. If there were no rules in your life for a day, what all would you do?
If there were no rules, I would eat everything and sleep at the same time. As simple as It is, when you have a busy life, you begin to appreciate little satisfactions like that even more.
Q. Precious or Priceless? What would you choose and why?
I would choose priceless. Because every material item, even if it's of great value is not where true happiness lays. Rather, true happiness is found in the simple "priceless" events we experience daily. It's in the sun shining in the morning, the smile from a stranger and the random acts of kindness.
Q. If you had to change one thing in your past, what would it be and why?
As cliche as it is, I wouldn't change anything. I've been blessed and lucky to be living the life that I have, but I've faced a lot of struggles, negativity and hurt. As I grew older and wiser, I've come to realise that these events were blessings in disguise because they've moulded me and pushed me to become who I am today.
Q. What suggestions would you like to give to aspiring beauty queens?
Be unapologetic about who you are. In a world full of beautiful ladies and the constant pressure to be "perfect", don't change who you are. Instead, stand proud, tall and accept everything about yourself, including all your flaws. Don't let your insecurities hinder your ability to bloom and shine not only on stage but in this lifetime.
Q. What message would you like to give to your fans on Angelopedia?
Thank you to my Angelopedia fans for the support! I am truly appreciative of all the love and recognition that I am getting. I hope you will continue to follow me in my journey to Miss Tourism World 2017 and I will do everything I can to make you all proud.
