Iceland will return to Miss Universe pageant after 7 years

Finally after seven year, Iceland will make a comeback in the much anticipated pageant of the year – Miss Universe 2016. Paula Shugart, President of Miss Universe Organisation, scheduled a meeting with Manuela Osk and Joerge Esteban, and appointed them as the new National Directors of Miss Universe Iceland.

Iceland will return to Miss Universe pageant after 7 years

 

The last time Iceland competed at the Miss Universe pageant was in the year 2009. Ingibjörg Egilsdóttir, Miss Universe Iceland 2009, made it to the Top 15 finalists at the MU 2009 pageant. The representative of Iceland for Miss Universe 2016 will be chosen later this year.

The contest has been existence since 1950 and initially was called Miss Reykjavík (Ungfrú Reykjavík). Since 1955, the contest is being held under the name Miss Iceland. The first time Iceland competed at the Miss Universe pageant was in the year 1956. The country has managed to earn five placements at the Miss Universe pageant till date. In 1962, Anna Geirsdóttir from Iceland was placed as first runner up at Miss Universe. Iceland has also managed to win the “Miss Congeniality” subtitle twice.
