As per the recent reports, Iris dropped by the Smile Train Office to discuss her upcoming trip with the organisation. According to the report, Iris will begin her work with Smile Train and will be visiting children who are undergoing cleft lip and palate surgeries. Iris is really excited for the trip as for the first time she will be able to witness the impact of these surgeries.

Right after her crowning, Iris visited the Latino Commission on AIDS and Smile Train. Iris has previously stated that she will be carrying forward former Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach’s advocacy of spreading awareness on AIDS and working on the measures for curbing the incurable disease. Smile Train is the charity providing corrective surgery for children with cleft lips and palates. Smile Train was created in 1998 by Brian Mullaney and Charles Wang, who had previously worked with Operation Smile, another charity focused on correcting cleft lips and palates.

Iris Mittenaere is currently in the final year of her dental studies. After finishing her degree in science at lycée, she moved back to her hometown in Lille and took up dentistry at the Lille 2 University of Health and Law. Besides dental health, the new Miss Universe queen stands for girl education. Iris shares, “I will be a dentist in two years. I have a charity for teaching children how to eat properly. But now that I’m representing the Miss Universe, I want to do more than that. I really want to bring all the children to school”. She exclaims that it is ‘really the most important’ claiming that she would be advocating ‘education for every child, especially for young women’.

We are really looking forward to Iris’ journey with Smile Train, what about you?
