First Miss USA to be in the Military
Yes you heard that right!! She is a proud Army Officer. "We are just as tough as men," she said when asked about her role in the armed forces and the integration of women into every branch. Deshauna has been in military for five years. She is also an IT analyst for the U.S. Department of Commerce.
Deshauna Aims towards working for the cause of PTSD as Miss USA
One of the biggest causes that Deshauna supports as Miss USA is treating Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder is a mental health condition triggered by experiencing or seeing a terrifying event. "My best friend is currently deployed in Afghanistan and I want to make sure when she comes back, she has the resources she needs to heal any internal mental scars she has." Shared Deshauna Barner.

Confidently Beautiful and Fearless
“To me confidently beautiful means understanding that it’s not always about your appearance. It’s not always about who you’re around and how they feel you look, where they feel you come from or your economic background. Serving in the military has taught me that being confidently beautiful is about being able to earn respect from people regardless of what you look like. As a woman in the military, people associate beauty with weakness and they learn very quickly that I’m extremely strong. And although I’m small, I’m powerful and confidently beautiful is being myself and being very happy with who I’ve become. Thank you.”. Deshauna’s answer when asked to explain Confidently Beautiful. Her answer says it all and you cannot help but fall in love with this beauty.
The beauty queen wants to use her platform to shed light on gender equality in the armed forces. Deshauna was courageous enough to bring into light the experience that she and others were not allowed to join "male-dominated branches" of the military, but that when the military later began expanding and integrating women into all branches, it recognized "women are capable of anything." Now that’s voicing your opinion and speaking you mind regardless of your gender.
Her Favourite Part about the Pageant?
Deshauna Barber is a fitness freak, and before joining the Miss USA 2016 pageant she made sure to get that pageant perfect body straining herself through longer work out sessions. Now you can pretty well understand what could be her favourite segment at the pageant!! Yes, you guessed it right, it was the swimsuit round.

The newly crowned Miss USA is excited about moving to New York. Deshauna posted a video Sunday night about how eexcited she is to take the crown and to move to New York City.
"This is so surreal," she said in the video. "I'm moving to New York tomorrow and I cannot wait for this reign to start. I look forward to meeting all my fans."
