Miss Universe 2016 finally came to a conclusion on 30th January 2017, when Iris Mittenaere of France won the coveted crown, bringing an end to the 63 year long drought of France. While the world enjoyed the victory of Iris, which was of course well deserved, Maxine Medina’s exclusion from the Top 3 finalists didn’t go well with many.

Maxine Medina of Philippines made her way to the Top 6 finalist with her exceptional performance, but the beauty stammered a bit during the Q&A of Top 6 which led to her elimination from the Top 3. The Question asked to Maxine was, “What is the most significant change you’ve seen in the world in the last 10 years?”

Maxine replied, “In the last 10 years of being here in the world, I saw all the people bringing in one event like this in Miss Universe. It’s something big to us that we are one. As one nation, we are all together. Thank you. Maraming salamat po.”

Many were dissatisfied with her performance, but this one person took the criticism to another level by using harsh words against Philippines. The Facebook user, recognised as Mhae, said that the Miss Philippines answer shouldn’t be splendid and it ruined her day. She went ahead and called Maxine silly for not using her interpreter to give a clear and adequate answer. On her Facebook post, Mhae mentioned that Maxine proved that she’s solely lovely however without brains.

Mhae’s post has gone viral and attracted a lot of criticism from the netizens. Many were offended by her rude remarks on Maxine and bashed her for going so harsh on the beauty queen. A user also challenged Mhae to join Miss Universe next year to prove that she’s smarter and beautiful that the one that she bashed. A Social Media expert said that Netizens must think twice before posting anything against a person on Facebook and avoid posting it publicly to avoid more trouble.

Beauty queen maker Jonas Gaffud also came in defend of Maxine and said Maxine would have done far better if Philippines wouldn’t have hosted the pageant. According to Gaffud, Maxine was under a lot of pressure as the host delegate.

Gaffud said that hosting the Miss Universes brought a lot of challenges for Medina. For Gaffud, Medina is one of the prettiest the Philippines has ever sent to the prestigious international beauty pageant.
