Miranda Mack crowned as Miss South Dakota 2017 for Miss America 2018

A Redfield woman was crowned as the new Miss South Dakota over the weekend in Hot Springs at the annual pageant. She is a student at South Dakota State University, and also won the local title of Miss SDSU.

21-year-old student Miranda Mack will now compete in the Miss America 2018 pageant to be held in Atlantic City on September 10th 2017. The event will be broadcast by the American Broadcasting Company (ABC). Miss America 2017 Savvy Shields from Arkansas will officially crown her successor.

Her platform is “All for Music.” And for her talent, she performed the operatic aria “Habanera.” She also won scholarship of $500 with the title.

The contestants were judged on a private interview with the judges (25%), talent (35%), evening gown (20%), on-stage question (5%), and swimsuit (15%).

Julia Olson passed her crown to the new Miss Dakota, Miranda Mack. "I have had the most wonderful year,” said Olson. “It is so bittersweet for this to come to an end, but I am so excited for the new Miss South Dakota and all the adventures she will have."
