From beauty pageant stages and catwalks, former Miss Earth 2008 Karla Henry has recently been appointed as the new face of public service in Cebu City. The Mayor of Cebu City, Michael Rama has officially named Karla as his new spokesperson. She had also been appointed by Rama as the executive director of Cebu City's sister cities program. Among Cebu's sister cities are Manila and Davao City, as well as Yokohama, Japan and Seattle and Honolulu in the United States.

“I have actually been tasked by the mayor. I’m here to assist all of you, if you have any questions. I’m proud to take on the role,” Henry shared. 35 years-old Karla grew up in Cebu City and has been involved in modeling, acting, and hosting since winning the Miss Earth title in 2008.

Karla is a Filipino-Canadian beauty queen who became the first Philippine delegate and the first in the Asian region to win the Miss Earth title. Apart from that she has been a judge at the show ‘It’s Showtime and has also served as a host at the Miss Philippines Earth in 2013, 2014 and most recently in 2019.

Henry along with Rama, and representatives from the World Wide Fund led the Earth Hour 2012 on March 31 in Cebu City as one of the official switch-off sites in the Philippines together with the cities of Makati and Davao.[30] She led the Pledge for Mother Earth where 13 megawatts were saved by residents and establishments in Metro Cebu who switched off their lights and non-essential appliances.

The diva shared that her priority as a spokesperson would be helping the mayor with information dissemination regarding the global pandemic and recovery from Typhoon Odette whose after-effects are still being felt by Cebuanos. Rama did not have a spokesperson prior to Henry’s appointment. He took over as mayor of Cebu City last November 2021 and is running for reelection in 2022.
