At the conclusion of the finale of Miss Earth South Africa 2016 held on 8th September 2016 Nozipho Magagula was crowned as the winner. Nozipho succeeds Miss Earth South Africa 2015 Carla Viktor, and will now represent South Africa at the Miss Earth 2016 pageant.

23 years old Nozipho Magagula is a medical student at University of Pretoria. Her initial motive of joining the pageant was to have fun which eventually changed when she was doing her academic practicals at Tembisa Hospital, and she came across an 8-month-year-old boy who had been admitted for two months.

“I entered the Miss Earth South Africa pageant not thinking I would get anywhere, not thinking it would have an impact on my career, nor link with what I love,” said Magagula. Magagula defeated 15 other finalists to clinch the title of Miss Earth 2016.

Magagula even said that she always wanted to be a heart surgeon. But the beauty later realised that there is a greater need for doctors in the community than there is at hospitals. “It is difficult for someone from rural areas to reach tertiary hospitals to be treated, it’s easier for them to go to the district ones.

The peaceful, humble passion in my soul, the child-like optimism of the future, and the confidence of my stride are what makes me a phenomenal woman,” said Magagula in a post on the Miss Earth SA Facebook page.

At the same pageant, Jeanine Keet was crowned Miss Air, Elne Van Coller was crowned Miss Water, and Mireesha Narsai was crowned Miss Fire. Do you think Nozipho Magagula has what it takes to be the next Miss Earth?
