05 Apr 2021 | Ana Walia

The finale of Miss Eco International 2021 was held a few hours ago at Baron Resort Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt where Gizzelle Mandy Uys from South Africa was crowned as the winner at the end of the event finale. Gizzelle succeeded Miss Eco International 2019 Amy Nurtinie for the title.

Before the winner was announced the five delegates; Miss Eco South Africa 2020 Gizzelle Mandy Uys, Miss Eco Philippines 2020 Kelley Day, Miss Eco United States 2020 Alexandria Kelly, Miss Eco Venezuela 2020 Steffanía Alejandra Rodríguez Vivas, and Miss Eco Costa Rica 2020 Kristel Ruiz Freeman were put to a grilling question and answer round which was their last chance to impress the judges and the audience with their intelligent and witty answers. Let’s look at the final question asked to the Top 5 finalists for the title of Miss Eco International 2020/2021 and the exceptionally well-defined answers by them.

Miss Eco United States 2020 Alexandria Kelly was the first one to answer the question and she was asked, “What is more important increasing people’s standards of living or protecting the environment?”, to which she answered, “I would say protecting environment is the only way to raise people’s standard of living. If we don’t have an environment to protect then we aren’t going to have a human race. The problem we’re dealing with now with covid-19, with pollution, with fast fashion, water pollution, we are dealing with losing humans because we’re just on the food pyramid just like every micro-organism on this earth. So, if we don’t protect our earth we won’t exist.”

Next up was Miss Eco Venezuela 2020 Steffanía Alejandra Rodríguez Vivas who was asked, “Are companies more or less environmentally responsible now than they were in the past?” The diva answered, “I actually think that the industries are not that responsible of consumption and greenhouse gas emissions because we are actually taking care of our environment; if you see for example the parties’ agreement and another sort of agreement you can see how companies and member states are trying to have less greenhouse gas emission and to protect the environment and having new technologies and comprehensive technologies and including and irregular energies.”

Miss Eco Costa Rica 2020 Kristel Ruiz Freeman was the third one to answer the question which was, “Who do you think is more responsible for pollution, individuals or the government?”. Kristel answered, “I think the first one responsible for the pollution will be the government because they are the ones who give the rules, they are the one that authorized like all companies and all this so, I think to change this, we have to start from the government and then all the individuals. I believe in teamwork so, beginning from the government and then planning and putting like a plan to reduce pollution in our country or in the world.”

Miss Eco Philippines 2020 Kelley Day was the fourth delegate to answer the question which was, “Recently we have more violence in schools, how do you think we can make a better way to promote safety and how many in our schools?” She answered, “This is a really serious topic and I am very passionate about looking after our generation to come because they are the most important, they’re the one who are going to fix the mess that we have made in the environment and with violence too. So, when a child goes to school, they’re supposed to feel safe, protected when they’re away from their family and I can’t imagine going to school and feeling scared and I’ve seen live footages of what is being happening in schools and it just breaks my heart. Unfortunately, as the world is going through a lot of changes right now, there is violence and the best thing we can do right now is improve the security of the school. There must be things like security checks, or metal detectors, because that’s all we can do right now and spread awareness. Look after our generation please.”

Miss Eco South Africa 2020 Gizzelle Mandy Uys was the last one to answer the question and she was asked, “What do you think has been the most important social movement of your generation and why?” Gizzelle answered, “The most important social movement is for women, if women stand together, we are unstoppable and as Miss Eco International I vow to use my voice for young women to know that they are loved, they are worthy and they are beautiful as you are and you can accomplish anything that you set your mind to.”
