All about Miss France 2024 Eve Gilles

19 Dec 2023 | Priya Bhardwaj

Eve Gilles of Nord-Pas-de-Calais was crowned Miss France 2024 at the finale of the national pageant held on 16th December 2023 at the Zénith de Dijon in Dijon. Eve will have the opportunity to represent her country at Miss World and/ or Miss Universe in the future.

Eve Gilles is 20 years of age and hails from Quaëdypre. She was born in Dunkerque (Dunkirk), Nord-Pas-De-Calais to a father from the North or France and mother from Réunion Island. Eve was initially preparing to become a neurologist and enrolled in the medical school as well. However, she left the path after a few months and switched to studying mathematics and computer science at University of Lille. Her future goal, after she completes her studies, is to become a mathematician.

Eve Gilles wants to use her platform to encourage children, especially young girls, to pursue mathematics and science. She hopes her own passion for the subject can help to make it seem less intimidating and children are able to learn it in a more creative way.

“For me, there’s an issue with the way maths is taught. Young girls and boys are told that maths is complicated, maths is hard, you need to hang in there. No! You should tell them, listen this is a challenge, you’re going to have fun, there’s a problem and you need to find the solution. That would change the entire dynamic”, she shared.

Although she has received a little backlash as she is being dubbed as an ‘androgynous’ winner with a pixie cut, Eve has not let anything affect her win and is planning her reign as Miss France. As the first contestant with a short hair to win Miss France in its 103-year history, Eve speaks clearly that nobody can tell anyone how to be and although it doesn’t affect her reign, she does not want to be exclusively known as Miss France with short hair.

“I want to be a strong woman, I want to make people realise that no matter where you start, no matter what path you take, you can achieve your goals. I want to show people that women are diverse, that we’re all beautiful, that we’re all different and unique. I’m not unique because of my hair, I’m unique because I’m Eve”, Gilles quoted.

Eve succeeds and was crowned by Miss France 2023 Indira Ampiot of Guadeloupe. Miss France 2023 Indira Ampiot is currently preparing to represent her country at Miss Universe 2024 which will be held next year in Mexico where Sheynnis Palacios of Nicaragua will crown her successor at the end of the event finale.
