Miss France organization introduces major change of rules

The Miss France organization has recently introduced some major change of rules in the application qualifications for the upcoming editions of the competition. After a series of criticism coming their way from various organizations in the country, Miss France has removed the age limit and now allows married women & mothers to apply.

While the upper age limit is still not set and is unknown so far, it could potentially be the same age limit as Miss Universe, i.e., 28 years, but there is also a chance that there will be no upper age limit at all. Up until now, the age limit to compete as a Miss France candidate was 24. It has also opened doors and allowed contestants to be married and have kids.

Typically, the winner of Miss France represents France at either Miss Universe or Miss World, while her first runner-up competes at the other pageant. In some instances, the predecessor of the reigning titleholder would compete at the other pageant or the two would switch years in order to avoid any scheduling conflicts between their assigned international pageants.

It is also an important point that the Miss Universe rules still don’t allow the winner to be married, or have kids and limits the age to 28. Since Miss France was created 31 years prior to Miss Universe and Miss World, the oldest international pageants, it has existed without them and even though they acquired the license later, the primary purpose is to choose a woman to reign for the French.

Since the rules of both the organizations do not match as of now, if a contestant who is married or a mother, above age of 28 ever wins Miss France, she will not be able to be sent to Miss Universe or Miss World unless they change their rules as well. Even without these rules, the past winners always had a choice whether they even wanted to compete internationally.
